Sudden Surprises

I was getting decorations out for Christmas this weekend(am I crazy?) and it got me thinking about the story of Jesus' birth in Luke 2. Actually I was reading in Chapter 1 about the conversation the angel had with Mary. The Bible says that the angel of the Lord came to her and said, "Greetings you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." Surprised by this divine visitation, Mary was a bit perplexed. But the angel went on to tell her "do not be afraid, you have found favor with God."
And then the angel delivered some news to her that was unbelievable. Simply put, the angel said, you are pregnant with the Son of God...right now! Mary had not yet been with a man so this came as quite a shock. But even more shocking to me is the way that Mary responded to the news. Luke 1:38, "I am the Lord's servant. May it be to me as you have said." And then she began to sing the song that came out of her heart.
How do you handle God's sudden surprises? I am certain that what has been spoken to your heart and over your life has shocked you at one time or another. God has a way of surprising us with news...not at all what we expect, but in the end, news that is good for us. Mary went with the flow. She was caught up in the moment and she went with it. She realized that even this news, as unbelievable as it was, had to be part of something greater for her. She agreed with the word from God and activated the principle...nothing is impossible with God. We have to agree with God and forget about popular opinions. God will always have the last word.
Watch out for some sudden surprises this week. Be looking for that thought that the Lord is trying to deliver to you in your life. It may trouble you for a moment but rest assured, God is working everything out for your benefit when you believe in Him and trust Him. Proverbs 19:21 says, "many are the plans in a man's heart but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails."
You are blessed and highly favored! Nothing is impossible with God!
