Second-Fiddle

Mark:1The beginning of the gospel
about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2It is written in Isaiah the prophet:
"I will send my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way"[b]—
3"a voice of one calling in the desert,
'Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.'
These words spoke of the ministry of John the Baptist. His mission-get the people ready for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ the Anointed One. All of his energies and efforts were being put into play for someone else. He was the "man behind the curtain", the "voice from the sidelines", the "armor-bearer". He was never THE man, he was the man preparing the way for THE man.
John chose the stick to his calling and we never see anything in him about wanting more of the spotlight or more fame for himself. He was as they say, "sold out the whole route."
His ministry was perhaps the shortest of all those we read about in scriptu…

No Worries

I wonder if it is possible to live a life with “no worries”. Life really is too short to worry about things that we can’t change anyway.
So I guess the question is, why then do we worry? Let me suggest two possible answers.
1-Perhaps it is because our image of God is not as big as the image of our difficulty.
The reason Jesus tried to teach us about anxiety is because he knew it would come. Anxiety come from the word anxiousness…being too anxious for something that has not happened to happen or visa-versa. In this world Jesus said you WILL have trouble. There will be lots that you could worry about. But he said BE OF GOOD CHEER, I have overcome the world. I am bigger than any problem that you may face.
Could I really believe that God could take this BIG mess and untangle it so that I could enjoy life again? Can I live a good life though my business has folded? Is there life after divorce? Can God use someone like me that has been through things I would never want to talk about? The a…

Taste and See

psalm 34:8Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.
10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
There are many people today that "tasting God" to see if it is something that they like. They try out churches and travel to seminars all trying to find something that will"taste" good and take away their problems. We have small groups, or "tasting parties" and special events where we can sample the many different flavors that God has to offer. We were told to taste and see so it must be ok, right? There is nothing wrong with tasting but there has got to be a time when you actually swallow and digest the Word and allow it to help you grow into the believer that God made you to be. Troubles will come, even when you have Christ in your heart. The difference is that you have Christ to help…

Deep Spiritual Tissue Massage

What every church needs today may be what I call a "deep spiritual tissue massage".  God is ready to bring about complete healing and wellness for His body. It may require a message AND a massage! To understand what I mean we must understand what a regular deep tissue massage is, how it works and what the benefits are. What is deep tissue massage? Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. You see when the church begins to live life with too much tension, when we grow stiff and slouch over rather than lifting up our heads and raising our eyes, when our shoulders are sore from carrying things that we should have given to God long ago, we need a deep spiritual tissue massage. God is beginning to realign deeper layers of spiritual tissue that connects us together.

God Makes it Happen!

What happens now has happened in the past, and what will happen in the future has happened before.God makes the same things happen again and again.
Eccles 3:15

Is there really such a thing as an original thought? After reading today's verse I would have to say that it seems the saying "what goes around comes around" rings true. History does indeed repeat itself and we all live through these cycles over and over. Recessions, depressions, wars and peace, love and hatred: it all floats around us, sometimes lands on us and eventually passes on. Seasons change.

The good news today is that even though you are going through a tough patch, you are not alone! And because God is faithful I can assure you today that you will endure this season and come out shining brightly on the other side. Don't lose heart and keep your faith strong. Think good thoughts, thoughts about how God is going to rescue you and throw you a party! God makes things happen again and again. Are you ready…

Words and Wonders

In Acts 4, Peter and John are addressing the Sanhedrin(kind of like the Jewish Religious Senate and Supreme Court). They were sharing their faith, healing folks and talking about the resurrection from the dead. Because of their teaching about 5000 people had converted. It was rocking the world! It wasn't long till the religious court wanted to know how all of this was happening....what's the secret? Where is the power coming from. That's when the Holy Spirit consumed Peter and he boldly laid it all out clearly and precisely.
When they heard Peter and John speak and saw their boldness, they perceived that they were uneducated and untrained, yet they marveled. Imagine that...they had no religious education...they were layman! But the courts could tell that they had been with Jesus. And then in Acts 4:14 it says, "and seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it."
The lesson is this...people can argue and criticize our wor…

Who is She?

She is more profitable than silver
       and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies;         nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways,
       and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
Who is she? She is WISDOM! Doing the right things, at the right time for the right reasons. Wisdom calls out to each of us. Can you hear her?
Before you make any decision, take a moment to seek her and embrace her. Just as the Word says, those who get a hold on her will be BLESSED! Have a blessed day! (excerpt from Proverbs 3)

Inside and Outside

"You're blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world." matt 5:8
The heart is a crazy thing. It can deceive us, it can be filled with joy and in a moment be pierced with pain. It can be broken and it can stop altogether. Where your heart is, well that is what is important to you. What's in your heart determines what comes out of your mouth. Scary at times isn't it?
Our "inside world", our mind and heart, have to be right. Thinking the right things and allowing those thoughts to drop into our heart so that it can beat strong and send what is necessary to the rest of the body. It's the only way that the "outside world" is going to make any sense.
When your heart is right and it is invested in what God planned for you to do, things seem to turn out well. Get things right inside and you will see so many more possibilities outside.

Leverage

As a fully devoted follower of Christ, we have been given POWER by the Holy Spirit to bring positive change to the world! Today, read this
psalm and realize that because He is EVER-present in your trouble,
you have
LEVERAGE!

Leverage is defined as the power or ability, to act or influence, people, events and decisions.
Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging.
Selah
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah
8 Come and see the works of the LORD,

      the desolation…

Are You on the 3G Network?

Romans 1:21 "For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened."
Knowing God is only part of our goal in this life. Giving God glory is the original 3G network that He set up. He wants us to acknowledge Him, praise Him and give thanks to Him. Living life with these characteristics assures us that our minds will be sharp and our hearts will be pure. Failing to keep Him first leads to futility and darkness: separation from His plans and purposes.
Why not make sure that you are on the 3G network today...Give God Glory!

Sound Health

‎"Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends."This verse from the Book of Proverbs is a great reminder to each of us that everything that is known doesn't need to be known by everyone. I've been studying about the power of forgiveness and the need to practice it as a believer. I know the strength in love that is genuine. Love will cover up multiple sins. Not so they can be hidden but so they can be covered by God. Love will shine every time we choose to be discreet with our brothers and sisters. We shouldn't judge, we need to leave that up to the Lord. It makes me think about what Zig Ziglar once said. There are three things we need to remember: there is a God...I'm not Him...and You're not him either!  Forgiveness is for you! Let love prosper. Friendship is a powerful thing. Charles Colton once said, "True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost."

All Things

Often in life things get uncovered and revealed that cause us to go into a tailspin. Since we cannot control what happens to us we may find ourselves in situations where we are shocked and bewildered. It may seem in these moments that you will never rise up out of the sinkhole. I can assure you one thing, one thing I have extracted from the pages of scripture over and over again: "all things work together for the good for those that love God and are called for His purposes."
How do we rebound after life causes a missed shot? Sometimes the best thing to do is start fresh. I remember a movie quote I once heard. A woman was trying to figure out her problems with a boyfriend and she found out that he was in a relationship with someone else. She was beside herself, totally confused and deeply hurt. Then she made this statement:
"A clean break is easier. You can reset it, and it heals, and you move on, but if you leave things messy, and things don't get put right, then it …

Where You Lead I'll Follow

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”- 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
No matter how hard we try to honor God with this physical shell, we will find out that the body is a follower. It does whatever the mind tells it to. It goes wherever the Spirit leads. The Spirit will most likely be willing and the flesh(body) will cave in.
Your body houses the power of the spirit of God. God put it I. You to make certain that you had an opportunity to trust the spirit and take the body along for the ride. So why are so many people living below their potential? Perhaps it's because our desire to satisfy the natural is greater than our willingness to acquire the supernatural.
Feed your spirit, renew your mind and take your body out for a spin on the divine path God has designated for you!

Gifts that Keep on Giving!

I love gifts! I enjoy giving them to others and I really enjoy receiving them! In 1 Corinthians 12 Paul talks to the readers about gifts: spiritual gifts and he says some interesting things about them. He begins by telling us that we should not be ignorant about these gifts. In this case, ignorance is NOT bliss! We need to know that there are some giftings that have already been downloaded to the one that receives Jesus Christ as Lord. They are listed in this chapter. Supernatural manifestations of the Spirit of God are already inside of you and you need to know that!
He continues by saying that the realization and utilization of these gifts are for the common good of the church...God's people. You see as we live saved lives these special gifts from God surface and should bless the people that we worship with, that we work beside, that live in our home. These gifts truly keep on giving!
Know this...if you have asked Christ into your heart, you are saved. You have activated the spi…

Multiplication

Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
Reading this scripture out of Acts 9, I wonder what that early church experience was like. They had no big screens. No worship software. No YouTube videos to set up the scripture text. Without all of the bells and whistles they were experiencing peace and were edified. Personally they were built up and they walked in the fear of the Lord and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. They had a holy reverence for what God could do and how powerful he was. They walked in that knowledge and lived with that fear as a filter for the decisions they would make. It was not the fear that God would place his hand on them. It was the fear that God would take his hand off of them. Notice what happened to the church: it multiplied. It grew and grew exponentially!
Are we growing that way today? Have we lost that reverential a…

Voices in My Head

Image
Ephesians 1:22And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

I sometimes allow the wrong voices to be heard in my head. It seems that my life consists of two unique voices...one that wants to hinder and one that wants to help...on that gives life and one that brings death...the voice of Judas and the voice of Jesus. The voice of Judas is self-seeking and self-absorbed. It causes confusion and leads to places where we hang it up!(no pun intended!) The voice of Jesus honors others and is considerate and kind. It brings encouragement and hope. That is the only voice that should be able to rise up to be heard in our life because the enemies voice and all that comes with it was placed under HIS feet. To be fully satisfied we need to be fully devoted to the voice of Jesus.
What are YOU listening to?  Which voice rings loudest in your ears? Make sure it lifts you up…

Just Say No!

Image
Titus 211For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.12It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age,13while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
You have the power to say NO to things that can hurt you and hinder your life. You have the power to say NO to engaging in bad behavior and hanging out with the wrong crowd of people. And here's the truth for you today-the only way you can say NO to what hurts you is to say YES to the One who helps you!
We are waiting for the return of Christ who is coming back for a people that He has chosen. You are so important to Him and He longs for you to "purify" yourself and be ready. Be eager to do what is good.
So the ne…

Brotherly Love

Image
It's what they call the city of Philadelphia. And it's commanded in scripture...let brotherly love continue!
It should be bred inside each of us...a concern for others and a love that goes beyond the boundaries of family and friends. That's why the Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 4 9Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
Today the Glenpool Outreach Center(GOC) will gather all of the volunteers it can muster, open up their hearts and spread their arms open wide to give the city of Glenpool, OK some brotherly love.
It's their annual Back2School bash and it's primary purpose is to get a free backpack and school supplies to the children in Glenpool schools. Glenpool is right outside of Tulsa and does not get included in city wide assistance programs. That's where the GOC steps up. Today kids will be honored, fed, allowed to have some fun and can even get a free haircut if they wish. It'…

The Art of Humility

Image
The Bible tells us that IF we would humble ourselves, we WOULD be lifted up at just the right time by God. Humility is a trait of a blessed life. Thinking of others before yourself...looking out for your neighbor...helping a co-worker finish a project on time...all ways to start learning the art of humility. So often we want to "blow our own horn" to make sure everyone else knows that we did something worthy of credit. I remember a story about a turtle and some geese.
A turtle wanted to spend the winter in FL but he knew he could never walk there. He convinced a couple of geese to help him, each one of them taking the end of a piece of rope while the turtle clamped his vice like jaws on the center. The flight went fine until someone on the ground looked up in admiration of the genius in this plan to fly a turtle through the air and asked, “who in the world thought of that?’ Unable to resist the chance to take credit the turtle opened his mouth and said, “I diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii…

God-Confidence

Image
YOU were created in the image of God.  When you look in the mirror each day, you should be seeing Him in your smile and your countenance. The Bible tells us that we are fearfully(awesome/awe-inspiringly) and wonderfully made. Before we were born the Lord had pre-destined/determined ahead of time just how much impact you COULD have on the world. I say COULD because so many people are living a life filled with less than what God had designed them for. Though you COULD be all that He intended, YOU have a say it whether or not you WILL be what He designed you for. The Lord promised us that He would work in us both to WILL and TO DO what  He desired for us.That's the desire to do it and the power to actually do it! We must never forget WHO wired us and WHO controls our path/purpose.Why? Because tough seasons are going to come and we will be tested. The Bible tells us that struggles will come upon the just and the unjust. In 1 Corithians 10 it says. “Don't be so naive and self-confide…

Idle Hands

Image
2 Samuel 11:1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. They say an idle mind is the devil's workshop...idle hands are the devil's tools. When we become idle, we stop moving. We may place ourselves in situations that we should not be in. This was the case for David. He was a warrior...a fighter...a born leader. But in the spring when the kings went off to battle, David stayed home. Staying home led him into a downward spiral that would impact his life in a dramatic way. Terrible things ensued because of his sin with Bathsheba but she was not the problem. Being out of position was his problem. He should have been on the battlefield that spring. It would have been much safer than the battle that nearly took all he had. We need to be aware of the purposes and places God desires us to be and listen to His still small v…

Anger Management

Image
Two church members were going door to door and happened to knock on the door of a woman who was not happy to see them. She told them in no uncertain terms that she did not want to hear their message and she slammed the door in their faces.
To her surprise the door did not shut all the way, in fact it bounced open. She tried again really putting all her strength behind it only to have the same result-the door bounced back open.
Convinced these rude young people were sticking their foot in the door, she reared back to give it one last slam that would teach them a lesson, when one of them said, "Ma'am, before you do that again you probably ought to move your cat."
Too many times we assume things, judge people and act hastily only to find that "our own cat" is causing the trouble. We get angry and unleash. Sometimes its in words and other times with actions. Nearly every time its unproductive.
The Bible tells us not to let the sun go down on our anger...in other wo…

Proclaim Life!

Image
1 John:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.
Its hard to imagine having the opportunity that the disciples did. To be in the very presence of God. So many times we pray and fast in order to make some type of connection and to draw Him close when in reality we just want to get close to Him. Some say He is as close as the mention of His name. Some see Him in nature and the things that surround them. Others hear Him in the cry of a newborn baby or the words of a wise elderly man. And mnay feel as though they touch Him when they gather together in worship and praise each week.
We can only proclaim life if we learn how to hear, see and touch the Lord in our daily lives. When you call upon Him He promises to answer and He will deliver you out of every affliction. Proclaim life today!
