The older I get the more evident it becomes that people have added so much to the things that the Bible says. Even to those precious "words in red", the ones that Jesus said, we seem to make some personal embellishments. Throughout my life in the church there have been many seasons. In fact if you were to ask me what denomination I belong to I would tell you that I am a presbymethobatissemblycathocostal.
A spiritual mutt I guess. I have seen many things and enjoyed what each of the denominations can offer.
But what did Jesus say was important? To lift your hands when you praise Him? To kneel when you receive communion? To dance when you are happy in God or to speak in tongues? Let me pass on to you what Jesus said. You'll find it in Mark 12. The Pharisees were asking about obeying the commandments and which ones were the most important. And Jesus said...
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.” Jesus always makes it "perfectly clear". He was concise with words and poignant in presentation. He knew that if we loved Him first and the loved ourselves so we could love people, we would act right and talk right. There would be no murder, no stealing, no strife and envy. In short, we could and would behave!
His strength is perfect. He is the perfect gift for you and the perfect gift for you is IN YOU! And living by faith in Christ can bring you perfect peace and perfect love!
Bless you today in the name of Jesus and have a "perfect" weekend!
