Listen...

Image
Listen, ooh, wah, ooh, do you want to know a secret? Yes, it was a beautiful line from a Beatles song with some exceptional wisdom...LISTEN! God gave you two ears and only one mouth. Guess what's more important to Him? As I was reading some verses in Isaiah 55 I noticed this: Listen to me, and you will eat what is good.
You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open.
Listen, and you will find life.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you.
I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. Isaiah 55:2-3 I guess it's not a secret after all. If you want a full life AND a full belly, you may need to start by closing your mouth and opening your ears! Can you hear me now?

Who's Following You?

Image
Nowadays when you ask this question people think about Twitter and those that are following your tweets. While it is nice to have some people follow your tweets there is a couple of other followers you have that are so much more important. At the end of the 23rd Psalm we are told that as followers of Christ, we are also being followed:
"Surely your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever".
Goodness and mercy will follow you all the days of your life! They got you covered and that means that you are never ever going to be alone again! This promise is for all of those that know Jesus as Lord. Are you a follower of Christ? Who is following you?

Transformed

Image
Look at these definitions: to change in composition or structure, to change the outward form or appearance of, to change in character or condition. This is how the dictionary defines the word TRANSFORM. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Each one of us is being changed every day. The things we see and hear are shaping our thoughts and our actions are following through on what we think about. The challenge is to not allow things that are bad for you to shape you. We are not to copy the world’s behavior: we are to provide the world a great example of how to live. We do that by living as Christ did. Let God transform you into the person He designed you to be. His way is good and pleasing and perfect! It all starts with control. Why not let the Lord begin to direct your steps, your meetings and y…

Turtleman

Image
Isaiah 54:17 tells us that "no weapon formed against us(as believers) can prosper". In other words you will not be defeated if you stay in the fight and trust in the Lord. I thought about this the other night as I was watching one of the cable channels and came across the show, "Call of the Wildman". This show features a legend from Kentucky known as "Turtleman" who goes after all kinds of animals that are causing trauma and drama to others. From snakes, snapping turtles and alligators to muskrats and wild boar, if you need to get an animal removed from your premises then "Turtleman" is the guy!
Watching him go into swamps, crawl spaces and other "dark" dwellings, it was obvious that he had no fear. I found myself wishing that I was as brave as the "Turtleman":)
As a believer in Jesus, you don't have to be afraid wither. No weapon that comes against you can succeed. Life and it's rodents may bring challenges and batt…

It's OUR Time!

Image
"For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear". 2 Timothy 4:3 A time is coming, and I think it has already been happening, where the Bible clearly states that people are going to walk away from truth and walk towards things that they want to hear over things that they need to hear. They won’t be looking at the “desires” He has placed in them but rather they will selfishly be looking out for themselves. And to justify and validate the journey they will seek out people: teachers that will say the things that they want to hear:things that will match what THEY want to do. Today I declare to you that this IS NOT the time for us to allow people to abandon faith and walk away from God…this is the time to boldly and TENaciously proclaim that Jesus is greater than any challenge you have…if God is on your side, it wont matte…

YOLO

Image
My daughter has a saying that all of her friends yell anytime something exciting and maybe a little risky is happening...they say "YOLO". It simply means You Only Live Once. It inspires in them the attitude to jump in and do what ever it is because life is short and you need to seize the day when you can. As I was reading today I came across a little verse that puts that "life is short" phrase to flight. Take a look: John 10:28 (AMP)
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never lose it or perish throughout the ages. [To all eternity they shall never by any means be destroyed.] And no one  is able to snatch them out of My hand. In Christ, as a fully devoted follower of Jesus and one who tries to imitate His ways upon the earth, life is not short, its eternal! So today, I am certain that I will be doing some things that will be exciting and even a bit daring...and I will add three more little letters to their phrase: YOLO...BIF, you only live once...but its fo…

Make it Clean

Sometimes we attach ourselves  to things that we shouldn’t.
Making a clean break requires letting go of some good things to be able to handle some better things. Think about it...if you can't release  properly, you can never receive properly.
Dr George Sweeting was on a trip to Niagara Falls with his family. Being springtime they watched as ice rushed down the river. Frozen inside the ice he could see the outline of dead fish. They made for easy meals for the seagulls. They would land on a block of melting ice, chip away at it until they could get to the fish, eat it, and then fly off before the ice disappeared over the falls. One feasting gull was not so lucky. As it approached the falls and spread its wings to fly away, it had spent so much time on the block of ice that its claws had frozen on to it. It struggled and struggled until finally the ice when hurtling over the falls with the bird unable to break its hold.
What's the lesson? Sometimes we spend so much time clingi…

In Cognito

Image
Perhaps you have heard some believers referred to as the "chosen frozen" or members of the Christian Secret Service. This refers to followers of Christ that do nothing, have no impact and simply try to fit in. We have been made in the image of God and instilled with special abilities to bring about God's plan upon the earth. It's why we are here...it's our purpose! 1 Corinthians 8:3 says, "But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes." God speaks up for you as you speak up for Him. So why don't you and I come out from the others rather than trying to fit in, be a stand out! It's easy to do...  love God, hate sin and I can assure you, you will not be frozen or a secret to God:) Are you ready to be recognized?

You Matter Too!

Image
Today I want you to take
time to pray for YOU...
that's right, pray for yourself!
Many times you can get so
wrapped up in the needs
of your friends and your
families, your co-workers
and your church folks and
you forget the greatest asset
you have...YOU!
You matter to God. And you ought to matter to you too!
In John 17 Jesus showed us a formula for maintaining a healthy and effective prayer life. Read the chapter throughout the day...you can even break it down into breakfast, lunch and dinner sections. The first thing he did was to pray for himself. Praying for yourself is not selfish, it's crucial. If you are not steady and stable you will never be ready and able. Jesus showed you the process. He gave you and I permission to pray for ourselves.
Secondly, Jesus prayer for believers. Pray for those in the faith that are connected to you. Pray for those believers that are not directly connected to you but impacted by your life and calling. Pray for those that make dec…

Don't Lose Heart

Image
EPH 3:13 So please don’t lose heart because of my trials here...
Its so easy to want to abandon the plan and throw in the towel when the going gets rough. Adversity has a way of bringing out whatever is inside of you...good or bad.
Paul always wanted those that were listening to the message that he was sharing to stay positive and stay in the game even when the times were tough. His encouragement was always to not lose heart.
When you're heart is in it, you can win it. When you do what is in your heart to do, you will be all that you were designed to be.
Going through some tough times? You are not alone. Hang in there and please don't lose heart...things are about to turn around!

God bless all of our dads today!

Dad's Just Can't

Image
There are lots of things that regular people can do but dads just can't. Dad's just can't sleep when the kids are still out. Dads just can't cross the street without holding hands. They can push, but dad's just can't swing. When dads play hide-and-seek they always get found, but they have a hard time finding you. Dad's just can't give up on their kids. Dad's just can't leave without saying "I love you" to their family. And dad's just can't ever be beat!
God bless you dad as you enjoy your Fathers Day weekend!

How Will I Know?

But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance. Paul was talking to Timothy, a young preacher, about how he could know that what Paul was saying was the truth. In these days we are living in, all types of crazy ideas and thoughts are being shared and not everything is the truth. You and I must have a standard of measure to decide what is right and what is not right. The Word of God is that blueprint. Paul said here’s how you can tell I’m shooting straight with you: look at my faith, my patience, my love and my endurance. Let me break that down: Look at … #1 my beliefs…do my convictions steer the course of my actions? #2 my patience…how well do I stick with what I believe? #3 my love…the way I show you what I believe; what do my actions say? #4 my endurance…my ability to stand strong through adversity to what I believe and the say I show it. So how about your life? What do you believe and …

Just Keep Walking!

Image
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me
… Yesterday we focused on speaking two words to ourselves each and every time we face uncertain or impending danger…”fear not”. Since most of you are just like me and you face some seasons of drought and difficulty, we must find a way to survive the “valley” experiences. In the KJV version of Psalm 23 it starts this verse by saying "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death".  For me, there is nothing to say "yea" about when the valley surrounds you. But I do take comfort in noticing that you and I are walking THROUGH the valleys! These tough seasons will pass and we will come out better for the wear on the other side because God is with us! So be of good cheer today, you may be walking in the valley right now but it wont be long till you start to see the Son shining in your life again! Just keep walking!

2'sDay

Just "2" words for you as you sip your cup of joe this Tuesday: fear not.

There are so many things that could happen and some that do which can bring on a fear-filled emotion. Impending danger is one of the roots of fear and oftentimes we are afraid of this dark unknown and other things we haven't even seen yet. Scripture tells us that the emotion of fear is not from God. In fact David said in Psalms that when his hope was gone, fear became a paralyzer to his life. (psalm 143:4)There are enough "fear nots" in the Word of God to cover you every day. Just look at yourself today in the mirror and say it, "fear not!" Faith is the antidote for fear so whenever fear hits, start feeding your faith. Faith comes by hearing the Word and letting it settle your spirit and calm your mind. Don't let fear hinder your progress. Face it, then allow your faith in God to defeat it. So, enjoy your "joe", relax and keep these 2 words on your mind and in your…

A-I-M

Image
A week ago I had the honor of talking to some of our youth about how to start a spiritual revolution in their life and the lives of others. A revolution is able to bring about some dramatic changed in a very short period of time. We have all been given specific giftings from God to bring about His purposes upon this planet and when we choose to activate those gifts, well, anything is possible! Our youth have a keyword this year "AIM" , so I used those letters to offer three things that each one of us can do to bring a sudden and momentous change in the lives of the people we are connected to.
#1-AIM for a target…determine what you want to see happen. God will lay people and ministries on your heart and things to do in your life as you sit in this place. Write down a goal…something you can do. #2-INITIATE a plan of action together to make it happen…with or without others. Don’t wait for a majority to get behind you. Start something with you! God can do so much with YOU. Then y…

You Are Special

Image
It's that incredible moment when you realize that you are loved, that there is a blessing upon your life and that God is in control. You finally get it...you were chosen by God to be born and there is something special and unique about you that you are here to accomplish. You are special!Only a small percentage of people ever truly understand that they do not simply live to exist, they were intentionally placed here, right now, so that they could live an amazing and thrilling life. God loves you. He put His spirit in you and wants you to pour it out over all the people that you meet. Be part of that special percentage of folks that get it, realize it and then use it to make everything and everyone just a little bit better.

Thunder UP!

Image
There's nothing better than watching David beat Goliath! Most of us count out the underdog and side with the experience. But some youths don't grow weary as are those young men on the OKC Thunder Championship team. This young franchise rose up in strength and power and simply wore down the older and more experienced opponent. When David took down Goliath no one thought it could be done. In fact no one even tried. They even attempted to dress up David in a suit of armor that didn't fit! But David made it clear that he was going to be himself and the God that he served would take care of the rest. He just had to show up and make his throw count.  Last night as the Thunder rolled through the Spurs I was inspired to keep fighting, keep shooting and to never quit no matter what the "experts" say. This just may be my day to rise up and be the champion:)

A Privileged Life

Image
By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News. Eph 3:7 As I sit in my living room, with my fresh cup of joe, I am smiling on the inside and the outside thinking about the wonderful people that are part of The Landing Community Church. Why am I so happy? Because I have been given the privilege of serving the Lord with some of the most amazing people on the planet. And I firmly believe that it is a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to open the living Word of God, allow His spirit to enlighten me and then open my mouth to proclaim the lessons I am learning by using His power. There is nothing better than growing in the Lord and growing together with people God plants around you. What’s so awesome about this “privilege” is that each one of us has it! God’s grace is more than what you need to accomplish anything that He has set in your path. His power will take you to places that you haven’t even dreamed of! So let’s u…

What Have You Done For Me Lately?

Image
Janet's number one single made the line popular...I even find myself singing it at times...well, honestly, I find myself thinking this question in my head too often than not. I do strive to be the type of person that puts others needs ahead of my own but my mind always seems to have a destination of its own. It tries to talk me into looking what I am going to get out of a deal before I get into it. The question I need to be asking is "what can I do for you today?" The Bible is clear and tells us that humility will always arrive in front of honor. In other words, if you humble yourself, God exalts you! So today, let's try to ask the right question and see how we can bless someone else. I can guarantee that this kind of thinking will bring blessing to you too!

Flopping in the USA

Image
I don't always watch the NBA, just when it gets to this time of the year and the best of the best are supposed to be playing. So when I tuned in to watch these championship matches, imagine my surprise watching these players doing all of this "flopping". In basketball, flopping is a pejorative term that refers to a defensive player intentionally falling backward to the floor upon physical contact with an offensive player. The hope is that it will appear to the official that the defensive player was knocked off of his feet by the offensive player's contact, thus prompting the official to call a charging foul against the offensive player. When we were little kids, we would be dramatic and exaggerate everything something happened and make it look and sound worse than it was. I guess we did a great deal of "flopping". When I grew up, all of the flopping seemed a bit childish to me. I also stopped whining and crying about everything too:)

Counting Your Blessings

Image
Today I want to encourage you to think positive...to remember the good times and to look for that silver lining in every cloud. When I was a child I would often hear people say to those that were discouraged or worried, count your blessings. There was even a hymn in church that proclaimed "Count your blessings, one by one; and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!" One of my favorite songs from the movie "White Christmas" had the same message. Today as you read the lyrics, stop counting the sheep and try counting your blessings!
 When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And y…
