What a Rollercoaster!

Sometimes me life can feel like a reality TV show. There are things that happen that make me look around to see if someone is filming this. Am I being "punk'd?" Ups and down, twists and turns, sometimes flipping upside down...its a rollercoaster! In times like these when I don't really know what is happening that I realize God is up to something. I usually pray for clarity. But the other day I had a friend that offered this: perhaps rather than praying for clarity you should pray to trust God more. Boom. Drop the microphone. Peace out.  That word smacked me in the face and was so powerful it altered the way I am riding this rollercoaster that is my life. When we trust in God we move forward even though we don't see the picture. We have to rely upon Him...depend upon Him. If I had that clarity I might decide I don't need that dependence anymore because I can see the bigger picture. So today, Im just taking the step thats in front of me and trusting God for th…

Perfect Strength

God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. PS 18:32 Years ago there was a song written by Steven Curtis Chapman which went like this:
His strength is perfect when our strength is gone He'll carry us when we can't carry on Raised in His power the weak become strong His strength is perfect Since each and every one of us has gone through or is going through some sort of difficulty that at times can zap us of all our strength, it's refreshing to know about this divine reserve. His power begins when mine ends. His strength carries over when I just want to give up. He arms ME with perfect strength. Today as you face your challenges and find yourself feeling a bit tired and exhausted, just open up your hands, lift your eyes up to the heavens, smile, and thank God for coming into your life with His perfect strength! His perfect strength will make a perfect way! "Be strong IN THE LORD, and in HIS MIGHTY POWER!"

Landing in the Ditch

The wisdom of the wise keeps life on track;  the foolishness of fools lands them in the ditch. Proverbs 14:8
Life on track versus life that lands in the ditch. I wonder how many times in our life we find ourselves "in the ditch". Maybe it's an actual ditch but I would venture to guess that many times we have been emotionally derailed or mentally side-swiped and found ourselves "off road"to some extent. Being off-road can feel a bit exciting, sort of like a rogue agent, but I can assure you that it gets old quick. We were not designed to be Bond-like. We were made to have a bond with Christ! We were designed to stay on God's highway of favor.  Imagine a road where your vehicle is not destroyed by potholes or a stretch of road where uneven lanes don't cause accidents. Life is full of obstacles along the way and only God can help us to navigate our way through the difficulties and get back "on track"again. Wisdom is making the right choices at the r…

Do it!

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." Thomas Edison  I often wonder about "timing" and why most of the things I pray for don't show up until that final hour. Have your ever experienced that? Let me keep it real simple today...it's always too soon to quit. If you are thinking about giving up on a dream or idea take a moment today to ask yourself this question: if the blessing you were waiting on was coming later today, would you still stop moving forward? If you are like most folks, you would say absolutely not!  Don't give up! Trust in the Lord and don't lean on what you know. Hold up your head and hold out your hope! You could be soooo close! Don't quit...do it!
Failure is not the opposite of success, it's part of success:)

In the Moment

Psalm 3:3 But You, O LORD, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

Why do we have hope in hopeless situations? Because there is One who can help bring hope. Just like this psalm says...

Lord you are MY shield. All around me…I am completely covered by the power of the Lord. On my right and my left, ahead of me and behind me. No weapon formed against me can prosper for I am unable to be penetrated!

Lord you are MY glory. David was a prominent man with status and position. Yet he knew that his identity and his value was not in his job or military rank…His validation came from God! Your identity is not tied to your past…your value is not tied to your performance…He is YOUR glory…your validation comes from Him not people! You are divinely defined!
Lord you are the One who lifts my head. In those days when the king lifted up your head it meant that you were accepted. You were once again restored to the place that you had been. On the other hand when the king put his foot…

The plans of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD. All the ways of a man are clean in his own sight, But the LORD weighs the motives. Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established. The LORD has made everything for its own purpose... Proverbs tells us that we can have many plans but it is the Lords purpose that prevails. Pro 19:21  That is what we should seek...His purpose. The two most important days in a persons life are the day that they are born and the day they discover why. The Lords purpose always prevails though it takes most of us some time to figure that out. If we ask the Lord to help, He promises to allow our thoughts to be established. In other words He will help us make up our minds to do life His way and our plans will be successful. This month, many of my friends are graduating. And my youngest daughter Jordan finished high school last night! So I'm one proud dad knowing that she has a lifetime of great things ah…

Take the Stairs

John 1:51 Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.”  There is a way to live life on earth in such a way that your eternity is guaranteed. Jesus said "I am the way", in fact Jesus is the original and only stairway to heaven! Many folks don't like the stairs. They look for easier ways, like escalators and elevators. They move you upwards more quickly and with less effort. Spiritually speaking there are no fast-track ways into our eternity with God. No elevator ride to the pearly gates and no escalator to get you there by doing nothing. You and I must keep walking. Step by step, we find each one representing another part of the walk we are taking with Christ. Think of each step as one good decision after another. Escalators can fail to work(at our mall one of them is always broken!) and elevators can get stuck. But you can always take th…

Just One Good Shot

Believe it or not my Sunday afternoons can be filled with some relaxation while watching the best golfers in the world. These guys play on some of the most beautiful places in the country and having this on television just brings peace to the home!  Most of these courses they play have one thing you must do: you better stay in the fairway! Going off to the right you will find some rough conditions. And should you go off to the left you may find a trap filled with sand.  From this vantage point I see similarities in life too. To be successful in this life its always best to stay in the fairway. Unfortunately we make some bad choices and slice off to the right to find ourselves in rough situations and seasons. Some of us may make hook ourselves off to the left and find that we are in the trap, buried by some difficult circumstances. For the seasoned golfer, getting out of the rough or out of the trap just takes one good shot. For the believer, the fully devoted follower of Christ, gett…

Worried?

I wonder if it is possible to live a life with “no worries”? Life really is too short to worry about things that we can’t change anyway. So I guess the question is, why do we worry?
1-Perhaps it is because our image of God is not as big as the image of our difficulty.
The reason Jesus tried to teach us about anxiety is because he knew it would come. Anxiety comes from the word anxiousness…being too anxious for something that has not happened to happen or visa-versa. In this world Jesus said you WILL have trouble. There will be lots that you could worry about. But he said BE OF GOOD CHEER, I have overcome the world. I am bigger than any problem that you may face. Don't worry. be happy:) Could I really believe that God could take this BIG mess and untangle it so that I could enjoy life again? Can I live a good life though my business has folded? Is there life after divorce? Can God use someone like me that has been through things I would never want to talk about? The answer is yes, y…
