You Are Marvelous

Psalm 139:14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.  Did you know just how special you are? You are wonderfully made, hand-crafted by God, designed for an amazing life filled with blessings. With so much potential in us, why are we so overwhelmed and defeated at times? You are marvelous! Personally I believe that the times we live in are getting harder. Our society changes through the years and though there are many good things around us, evil multiplies too. We need to consistently examine what we are doing and why we are doing it. I love the way that Psalm 139 ends as a prayer asking God to search inside and point out to us where we need to improve. It seems to me that I am always trying to close a gap in my life so that I can keep the enemy at bay. The Good News is that I still can! Why? Because I am fearfully and wonderfully made...I am marvelously complex! You are too!  Ask God to search your heart and show you things tha…

Closing the chapter...

Closing the chapter...turning the page...saying goodbye...no matter how you say it, its hard. This week I say goodbye to a home that has been a safe place and refuge for me. It's been a shelter and comfort station for my children. And part of the time I have been here it was a playground for my ole buddy and favorite miniature dachshund, Midnight, may he rest in peace. I have so many memories in this place and must honestly say it is very emotional for me. I've spent the last 45 days peeling back layers of memories, selling nearly all of my furnishings and trying to prepare myself for whatever the Lord wants to do. I've simplified my life like never before and continued to encourage others even when I "felt" discouraged. And through this entire experience I realize that sometimes you need to say goodbye and close one chapter before another one can be written. My living room has two chairs in it and one tv, where Jordan and I sit sometimes and talk, laugh and eve…

Foster the Change

Are you ready to foster the change?CLICK ON LINK

There are so many reasons that I wanted to share this link above with you. We don't get to choose our family. Many of us come from homes where our dreams are celebrated and our abilities nurtured in loving and caring ways. And unbelievably in this country, there are hundreds of thousands of children that are in the foster care system and long to be loved and hugged. Who is going to foster the change?  These children just want to be held when they are afraid. They want someone to care when they hurt.
My prayer today is that you will take a few uninterrupted moments in your day and sit and watch this short little video...I mean really watch it. Let the words and the facts settle into your spirit and see if your heart is touched in such a way that you can't help but DO SOMETHING. To foster the change we need to do something to change the foster system. To be those that love these kids...those that pray for families ready to help...…

Nothing is Impossible

Last Christmas while I was at The Landing we set a goal that could only happen with God's help. We had about 120 people at the time and we wanted to believe for some incredible things and show just how BIG a God we serve. We wanted to raise enough money to feed people a FREE lunch on Tuesdays for a year, bless 5 families with a Christmas they would always remember and we wanted to build a home for orphans in Uganda.  This week I received pictures of the home that God built through the generosity of friends and family members of The Landing and Cup of Joe. In November of this year, this home will be a safe place to "land" for 8 young ladies that God is about to launch into His amazing purpose. They will be covered by love, filled with hope and trained to be all that God designed them to be. I am especially grateful to our Missions Directors, Darrick and Cathy Border who kept us on course and inspired us to believe God could finish what He started.
Today I want you to bel…

See YOU at The Pole

This week many young people all over the country will gather around their local school flag pole. They are praying and asking God to heal this land and pour out His blessing upon us. The numbers will probably not be like those political rallies nor will there be the media frenzy stirring around them. Still, they will cry out to a God that heals ALL of our sicknesses and who provides comfort to those that feel lost and alone. These young people still realize that there is only one party worth getting behind and that is the one that God is throwing for those that trust Him. Fact is we need God more than anything right now. For a few moments this morning, students will be able to acknowledge Him and ask Him to direct their paths. And I believe God  will smile:) The Good News is that you don't need to be gathered around a flag to pray. You can pray in your car on the way to work. Pray in the office you sit in. Pray right before the teacher starts that class and gives you the test for…

What THEY Say Doesn't Matter

PSALM 3:1Lord, how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
2 Many are saying of me,
"God will not deliver him."

There have been many times in my life where I felt like the world was out to get me...like the main reason other people existed was to torment me and bring difficulty into my life. Maybe you have had some seasons like that too. The old saying "when it rains it pours" can ring true many times. The good news is that God did not plan for you to live life overwhelmed, frustrated and all stressed up with no place to go! John 10 tells us that Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly. That means your need will be met; your spiritual, physical, financial and emotional needs will not go unfulfilled. You can and will be delivered! David was facing great adversity. Enemies were coming out of the woodwork to harm him. Their taunts would be loud. "God will not deliver him" they would say.
Just remember today that what THEY are saying does not ma…

God's Kids

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. 1 John 3:1 Sometimes its difficult in this day and age to share your beliefs and tell others about Jesus. Let me encourage you today to not be afraid to share your faith and love for Christ with other people. The Word of God always wins. It never fails to accomplish what it is intended for. You can boldly speak with confidence knowing that all of heaven is supporting you. Will everyone get it? According to the Bible and this verse, apparently not. But don't worry about that. Your job is to share. Let the Lord determine when the seed begins to germinate! You are God's kids so get out there and act like it!

FOMO

We all have experienced it...even though we may never confess it...deep inside it is our little secret...we are consumed by FOMO...fear of missing out. Sometimes we linger in conversations longer than we should because we are afraid we may miss something. Often we find ourselves in relationships we shouldn't be in because we don't want to miss out on what might be coming.
How do we rid ourselves of FOMO? How about trying to LITM...live in the moment. When you can enjoy whatever your are in the midst of and whomever is part of your life for the time, you will not have any time for FOMO. I love the Bible and a little scripture in 2 Peter that says we have been given EVERYTHING we need to live a godly life. When I understand that God has set me up for success and that everything I need to live the life He planned for me is already in me, well I remove every last bit of FOMO. Just say NO today...LITM...NOFOMO!

Just a Little Touch

Mark 5:30-31 At the same moment, Jesus felt energy discharging from him. He turned around to the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?” His disciples said, “What are you talking about? With this crowd pushing and jostling you, you’re asking, ‘Who touched me?’ Dozens have touched you!”
This is a story about Jesus walking with a bunch of folks enroute to Jairus' home to heal his daughter. There was a lot of activity as they go on their way until suddenly, Jesus stops and asked a simple question:"who touched me?" The disciples find this a bit odd as there are many people brushing up against Jesus...the crowd is large. But Jesus had felt the touch of someone that had "pulled" power from him. Just a little touch.
It was a woman who had been sick for 12 years. She had done everything she knew to do in order to be well. But right there on that day and in that moment, she thought to herself that if she could just get a finger on Jesus, if she could just get a littl…

What Not to Wear

My daughter and I used to watch nearly every episode of a show called "What Not to Wear". After seeing several shows with her I began to learn some things from the key points of each show. Life lessons from the world of fashion:) Things like:  1-You can change the way a person looks by changing their hair color and cutting it shorter. Doesn't help me as my hair is changing color on its own by going grayish white and if you cut it any shorter you'd be taking away the skin on my head! Ted knows what I'm talking about!! And when Carmindy does makeup and brings out the beauty that's already there, well it's just too bad I can't do that because for many of these women it's a game changer and a face changer! 2-Clothes that fit right can actually make you look better! Nearly my entire wardrobe fits wrong. As Stacy and Clinton toss out the lucky makeover participant to give them an update, I realized that they would probably throw all of my outfits away:…

Tired of Doing Good?

Galatians 6:9 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith
I don't usually notice myself getting tired when things are good. I know that this scripture is speaking to the idea that we can't stop doing the right things for others. Think about it: do you get worn out doing good? When I am involved with some ministry outreach or event that is "doing good" there is so much adrenaline and joy that I receive from the work that it often doesn't feel like work at all. In fact I feel myself getting tired when I stop! One of the lessons I have learned is that when I find myself getting "burned out" it is usually because I am doing the wrong things or doing the right things for the wrong reasons.
The JOY of The Lord is stren…

Get Your Hopes Up!

Ephesians 1:11 It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
What a great way to begin the week...knowing that God has his eye on us and He has some design plans for our lives! Sometimes I think to myself, "I know that there is a reason for everything but sometimes I wish I knew what the reason was!" He knows the best way to get all of those things he placed in me out and into the world to glorify himself. So my role is simple: let him do what he desires with what he made...ME!
I love the line in this text about getting our hopes up. I used to be the type of person that always expected the worst so that when anything but the worst happened, it seemed good. All that caused me was a great deal of time expecting no good things. In Christ we find out who we are and …

Enjoy Your Rest!

Happy Labor Day!

For all of you that truly get a chance to rest and enjoy today this cup is for you:)

Most of us are in need of some rest. The labor force and the trials of life have have been beating at us tall year and we need a refresher...replenished in our spirit and our body.  One day I was given some lyrics that spoke to my heart and these words began to soothe my soul in the midst of all the chaos. They went like this:
Rest, the Lord is near
Refuse to fear, enjoy His love.
Trust, His mighty power fills every hour of all your days.

There is no need for needless worry with such a Savior.
You have no cause to ever doubt,
His perfect Word still reassures in any trial

There are a few more great lines of calming reassurance in this song, written by Phil McHugh and Greg Nelson many years ago. Take a moment today, cease from your labor, and let your mind be quieted and your spirit refreshed as you learn how to rest. The Lord is near!
Here's a link to the song: www.youtube.com/watch…

Inner Beauty Never Needs Makeup

1 Peter 3:3-4 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.
I have always been the type of person that can get ready very quickly for the day. Picking out clothes is not tough and taking care of my hair, well, you know that can't be hard as there is not too much of it left! I love the lesson that the Lord wants us to get here: outward beauty comes from letting inner beauty out! In other words when we have the right spirit, we will always glow with the love and peace that only comes from knowing Christ.  So grab your Bible first and pump up your heart by feeding your spirit. That gentle spirit is so precious to God and so important for you. Inner beauty never needs makeup:) Now, go get em gorgeous!

Faith-Filled Bites of Hope

It is good for workers to have an appetite; an empty stomach drives them on. (Proverbs 16:26 NLT)

Have you ever noticed that when you are trying to eat the right things, every commercial on television is promoting the wrong things? Or you are not really hungry and sitting at home and then suddenly, that ice cream commercial sends you running out for your favorite flavor!  The marketing companies know that if they make you think you are hungry, you will go after what they want to feed you. Your hunger, your appetite will drive you on.  Now consider that God has given us a taste of the bread of life (His Word) that when eaten, will make you want more:) His hope is that your hunger for more of Him will drive you on towards more of His plan for you. Your hunger brings out a craving to be with His people, His family, His activities. So rather than watch the commercials today and chasing pints of mint chocolate chip, take another taste of His Word and increase your appetite for God. If your…
