Tomorrow's Mercy

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.

They are new every morning;
Great
is Your faithfulness.Lam 3:22-23
I don't deserve the goodness of God. I seem to make so many mistakes. In fact there are days when I get up and want to do only good things but end up making some poor choices instead. I fall short in so many ways. The Bible says that this is true of all of us so I know that I am not alone. I have others that are part of his family that are trying to live a life that honors God and navigate the trials and challenges too. But the news gets even better! I may make a mistake today but tomorrows mercy is not the same as todays.  He has compassion on me each and every day and he knows my weaknesses. In fact, when I am my weakest, he becomes strength for me! Have you made some big mistakes? Don't dwell on what's done, look forward to what's coming! New mercies...God's compassion...GREAT is His faithfulness!

The Fingers of God

My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 7:1-3
We need to stay focused on what God is doing and and what He wants to do on the earth. He longs to download His plans and purposes to the ones that will treasure His commands. Holding His Word dear to our hearts is how we truly live the life He created us for.  In verse 3 we get some insight on how to spread the Good News. It encourages us to bind the Word on our fingers and write the Word on our hearts. We already know that whatever is in our heart is going to come out of our mouth. His Words should be imprinted deeply on our hearts.  When you bind the Word to your fingers you place His impression on everything you touch. Imagine a world where everyone is in sync with their divine plan and all day long they just keep spreading this virus:the God virus! Someone once said, "Chec…

Stronger

Image
Romans 16: 26..."All of our praise rises to the One who is strong enough to make you strong, exactly as preached in Jesus Christ, precisely as revealed in the mystery kept secret for so long but now an open book through the prophetic Scriptures. All the nations of the world can now know the truth and be brought into obedient belief, carrying out the orders of God, who got all this started, down to the very last letter. 27 All our praise is focused through Jesus on this incomparably wise God! Yes!
Every one of us wants to be stronger...more durable and better able to stand against corruption, disease and any other thing that harms us. We look for the latest and greatest trend to help us in our endeavor. This weekend my kids and I tried out one of the latest spa treatments at a place called Cryo-X. You stand in a chamber that freezes your body to somewhere between 2 and 300 degrees below zero for 3 minutes! It sounded intriguing so we did it. We convinced ourselves that it would help…

How to Make Life Purr

Image
Anyone who has a happy cat knows that sound it will make: a gentle little purr. I have even heard people refer to a car engine that is running smoothly as making a "purr" sound. So today I ask, how can we make our days "purr" a little? What's the secret to running smoothly each day? Since those that know me are aware of my love for the acronym, let me suggest that your life can "purr" when its filled with peace, unity, repentance and restoration. The Bible talks of believers of having a peace that goes beyond what they can comprehend. That peace comes only when the mind, body and soul is synchronized and there is unity. This kind of unity happens when we repent and turn towards the Lord deciding to do things His way and not ours. And when all of these things are in operation, well, there is complete restoration. So if you really want life to purr, you need to strive for peace, unity, repentance and restoration. Oh and if you add to that flaming enthu…

3 Ways to Get it Together

We need an answer to how to put life back together after an unexpected package of surprises. First of all, you can’t really put it back together, but God can:) You will only frustrate yourself like all the kings horses and all the kings men. Remember what happened to Humpty Dumpty?
Let me give you 3 things about getting it together:

1- read the instructions…why do we always want a shortcut? If you are like me, I often look at the picture on the box of the puzzle and simply try to imitate that. When pieces are left over and it looks slightly different than that picture, that’s when I go to the English translation of those directions. There are so many translations and none of them help except the one I understand. The bible is life's blueprint. Find one that you can read! Then read it…don’t look for a crib note version to get by…forget about the seminars and how to get rich quick with little or no work! It just doesn't happen that way! Podcasts are good...God blasts are better…

Overheated?

Image
The LORD watches over you the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going PS 121:5-8

The weather is a bit brutal these days. Thunderstorms, tornadoes and these past few weeks its been the heat. Heat indexes over 105!  I noticed that in Arizona it was 120!! When the heat gets turned up by Mother Nature, it's refreshing to read this Psalm about the Lord being "our shade". Sometimes life can be uncomfortable. It's easy to get overheated. We need the Lord to watch over us. When things get "heated" it will not harm us. Why? Because the Lord is always looking out for our best interest. He will watch over our going out and our coming back home. He soothes the heat wave!
It's difficult to be outside when the heat index is this high. On the route that I take when I walk there are several spots that are …

3 Ways I Put Pep Back in My Step

Image
Whenever I feel discouraged or depressed I have a few ways to pull myself out of the doldrums; 3 things I do to put the PEP back in my step.
1- pray. There is no better way to alleviate pressure and stress than to give it to someone else. I give mine to the Lord. 2- engage. The worst part of being discouraged is feeling alone or isolated. So I go to a place that has lots of people like a coffee shop or a store. Walking around and being in a space with other people is very therapeutic. 3- pandora. I love the Pandora music app. I have a praise and worship station that will shake off all of the anxiety and help calm the chaos.           Pray, Engage, Pandora=PEP:)
Without music my life would b flat. Without people my life would be dull.

And without Jesus, my life would be nothing at all.

How do you get out of a rut?

Can Passion Produce Positive Results?

Image
I came across this quote the other day and thought about how many times I seem to act without really thinking about what I am doing. Some would call it impulsive or reckless. I think that if we were honest, we would say this is a bit prevalent in our society today. Just as damaging to our overall health and equally as devastating is to have thoughts and convictions without acting upon them. To simply be idle and silent can produce no change at all. The greatness of our nation is our right to speak our mind and share our ideas with each other. We need to pray that reconciliation and coming together always remains stronger than divisiveness and tearing apart. I love to see amazing passion and my prayer is that the passion will always have a positive purpose. Love must rule the day and if we truly care about our children and their children, we will seek to make certain that peace rules our hearts. This country is really worth giving our best to.  Being the best  version of ourselves tha…

For the Love of God

The last several days have been a bit unsettling here in Dallas. Most of my life I seemed to live in areas where violence was not evident at the magnitude we have seen here since last Thursday evening. My heart hurt deeply for the families of the officers and civilians that were ambushed by an unseen enemy. Then watching the news and hearing how angry people were at law enforcement and at each other, well, I just got angry. Seems that anger incites more anger. And I watched as the anger spread all over the country. I was so overwhelmed with emotion, in my mind I even thought "what's the use, we'll never see this change".  In my unbalanced state, I went to church and the service opened with an intimate acoustic worship song. All attention was on the Lord and praising His name…and in moments, in the center of that worship song, I simply melted. I was consumed by the love that God has for me, for all people and for our country. He became so large in that moment. He is th…

Are You Seasick?

There are many people these days that seem to be getting seasick. It seems that they are not committing themselves wholly to the things the Lord wants to do with them. They have difficulty making a decision and they second-guess most of the ones that they do make.
James 1 tells us in verse 6: "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God" because he will not hesitate in giving insight to you. It then goes on to warn us about "wavering". Wavering is what happens when we become indecisive. We are unsettled like a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. That leads to double-mindedness and what I call seasickness. Seasick people are unstable in ALL ways. You and I won't always know what the right things to do are but the Lord does. And all that is required of us is to ask and then hold on to our faith in what we know He can do. The winds will blow and the waves may rise. But you can make it through the storm if you hang on and trust in the captain of the…

Are You on the Guest List?

God, who gets invited to dinner at your place? How do we get on your guest list? 2“Walk straight, act right, tell the truth. 3-4“Don’t hurt your friend, don’t blame your neighbor; despise the despicable. 5“Keep your word even when it costs you, make an honest living, never take a bribe. “You’ll never get blacklisted if you live like this.”Psalm 15
The hottest ticket on Broadway right now is the one to see “Hamilton”.Getting on the invite list is nearly impossible. If God was throwing a dinner party, I bet that might just be an even harder to get ticket, don’t you think? You may say yes, but just read today’s Psalm. It’s not only possible to be on this list, its highly probable. Just live right! Be honest, don’t hurt people and never abuse your position. Scripture says you will NEVER get blacklisted living like this.

As much as I’d love to see “Hamilton”, I really want to have a seat at God’s dinner table.  How about you? Are you on the guest list? You can be!

Really?

Judges 6:36 Gideon said to God, "If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—37 look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said."38 And that is what happened. Gideon rose early the next day; he squeezed the fleece and wrung out the dew—a bowl full of water. Isn't this like most of us... "bargaining" with the Lord? God if you will do this for me, I'll serve you forever! I'll do some things for my church if you will (put your request here). For Gideon, it was a bowl full of water that changed everything...for a minute. He then went on to ask God prove himself again and reverse the process: to make the wool dry and the ground wet! Can't you just see the smile on the face of God? This could have been the first use of the term..."really"? Walking in faith requires you and I to simply trust and obey…

There IS Freedom

Image
Thanking the Lord today for the freedom that we still enjoy. It's getting more and more important to fight for the things that matter. Always remember that "where the Spirit of the Lord is...there is freedom". Let's keep that Spirit in these United States of America. God bless this great nation! Have a great July 4th!

How to Get Rid of Bad Thoughts

The Bible talks of casting down imaginations. It's what we are to do with any thoughts that rise up contrary to what the Word of God says. Yet, we are born with incredible minds that are full of imagination. When imagination is used creatively it can unleash beautiful things. But when our imagination runs wild, watch out! Whenever images in your mind start showing up that don't fit in the context of a life lived for Christ, you and I cannot afford to let them develop. In our spiritual "dark room" as we see them beginning to develop, we must cast them down and hurl them away from our lives. Take captive those thoughts...demolish them before they demolish you! I have had some very dark seasons in my life when my heart was hurting and my mind just continued to be barraged with images that were not healthy. I felt like the Lord gave me a simple strategy to help. What's that strategy? I'm glad you asked! It's an exercise that I do when an image is in my head …
