There is nothing more miraculous and exciting than watching a new birth! And yes, its a little messy too but you go through all of that "stuff" because you are so excited about this new life that is bursting forth. For the past two months I have been assisting some folks at Impact Productions on a new project: to give birth to a new program for a wonderful man of God in Tulsa named Billy Joe Daugherty. There have been so many incredible moments in the "process" of development and research and I have had the great privilege of joining in with people of faith and purpose. My life's mission is all about turning dreams2destiny and helping others do what God has purposed them to do. Tonight at 6:30pm CST on Trinity Broadcasting Network, we give birth to Pastor Daugherty's new program 360(degree)Life: A Look at Faith from Every Angle . It's a world premiere! As in any new birth process, there are moments of pain(usually for the one carrying the baby) and the

Less Can Be More

In John 10:10 we read, " I have come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly ." When we think about a life that is abundant the natural train of thought is to look for more. Abundant life means more money, more relationships, more opportunities...right? I was thinking today about how blessed I am to be saved and how awesome it is to have these promises in scripture to hold on to. I feel like I am living that abundant life but it is not because I have more of everything. I have lost many things over the last few, friends and even family but I am living in abundance. Because abundance does not always mean more. Abundance deals with priorities and perspective. Less can be more when your life has been balanced out by God. Sometimes money is lost to give us an appreciation for how we make it and a desire to start saving it. Often people will leave your life so that you have the opportunity to get to the places that God wants to take you.

Get Ready for Grace!

1st Timothy 1:12 "I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus." What you were is not important. What you are right now is going to help you in what you become in the future. Know that the decisions of today shape the course you are going to travel. The good news is that God has considered you. He has considered you faithful. Your past has brought you to your present and will be used to carry you into your future. How does that happen? God's grace is abundantly poured out upon you. Not just grace but along with that comes the faith and love that are all found in Christ. His mercy washes out our ignorance. Maybe people have spoken negative things over you

Trying to come back after three day weekends is a bit challenging. When Monday feels like Saturday your mind can start playing tricks on you! I guess its because our daily routine has changed. Sometimes just the littlest changes can take you a completely different direction. Every once in a while I will decide to take a new turn in my car and my GPS system will talk to me in that sweet British accent and say..."recalculating". I am still going to get to my final destination but I will be going a different route. For many people, today may be a bit challenging because of the holiday. But just let your system "recalculate" itself and and know that you will get through this shorter week just like every other one. Don't worry about the subtle changes that are taking place. God does not always choose the easiest ways but He always delivers you right on time!

Happy Memorial Day!

Have you ever missed someone that you really didn't know? That may sound very strange to you. Yet, this weekend, as I have been preserving some memories, I found myself thinking about the grave of my brother that was still born. I visited the cemetery where many in my family tree have been laid to rest one summer while on vacation. I took this picture of the head stone because I never wanted to forget it.Though the world would never know him or hear his voice or laugh, for some reason I felt his spirit. This weekend I could not visit the place on this world that marks his brief life, but I can always look forward to the day that I will see him again. I can also enjoy the family that is with me, my brother John and my sister Jennifer. And I can thank mom and dad for doing all that they could to make us the kids that we are today. I pastor a church, my sister is a teacher in South Carolina and my brother is the Executive Pastor at a church in Florida. Not bad, mom and dad, I gues

What Memories are You Preserving?

All over the world this weekend people are traveling and visiting family. They are going to the grave sites of loved ones to lay flowers and pay their respects in loving memory of someone who had a profound impact on their lives. We call these sites memorials: places where we preserve a memory of something or someone that was significant in our lives. I hear people talk a lot about forgetting the past…what’s done is done…don’t look back that is unless you want to turn into a pillar of salt! And for many things, this counsel may be beneficial. But today I want to talk to you about preserving the past; about letting the circumstances of the past propel you further into your future. So the question is “Can we turn miseries into milestones”? What does God have to say about our past? I remember a song that Carman wrote: it dealt with a conversation between a demon and the devil and the demon was telling the devil that you can try to remind the people of God about their past but just remem

Priorities...we need to establish them...they help us become all that we were meant to be. Doing the most important things first...taking care of what's important will help us to bring the right results into our lives. Priorities matter to Christ. In Matthew 23 you can read how he rebuked the Pharisees for allowing their priorities to bring about dysfunction. If we are going to try and prioritize our lives, why not look at what Jesus did? What were His priorities? Read what the Bible says... Mark 1:35Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. 36Simon and his companions went to look for him, 37and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!" 38Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." He began His day by getting off alone and in a quiet place to pray. He understood that in

Working Happy

Ecclesiastes 5:18 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him—for this is his lot. 19 Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them , to accept his lot and be happy in his work—this is a gift of God . 20 He seldom reflects on the days of his life, because God keeps him occupied with gladness of heart. I was thinking about my job and how I feel about it. I have to say that I am not always happy nor grateful for what I have been given. I need to be better. This scripture tells me that God gave me the work that I do and the ability to "enjoy" that work. It talks of accepting the facts and being happy in them for this job is a gift from God. I don't think about negative things because my heart is filled to overflowing with gladness. If you have a job right now, there is no better time to thank the Lord

Prevailing Purpose

Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21 I'd like to think that I am pretty wise. I believe that I make good decisions most of the time and I try to think through what I do before I do it. So when I put a plan together to do something, I fully expect it to happen. Now in actuality, I make many plans that seem to end up in places that I never expected. And because I believe that the Lord is sovereign, I truly believe the last part of this verse..."it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." What that means to me is that even though I may plan for things to go one way, if I am trusting God and seeking His will the end result will ALWAYS be His way. His purpose will always trump my plans. And His purpose is really what I want! So I keep planning...I keep praying...and I have full assurance that at the end of the is the Lord's purpose that w

Watch Your Mouth

Imagine having the ability today to help shape your success. See yourself clearing out paths towards the destinations that God has set up for you. The things that you say can determine the swings in your day! Your words can be used as weapons to destroy obstacles. Your words can bring peace and joy into your life! The Bible tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. This little tongue steers the course of our life like a tiny rudder steers a ship. YOU have the power to bless or curse, to build or destroy. So use your words wisely. Speak positive things and be encouraging. You can make an incredible difference and all you have to do us watch your mouth!

Every Spiritual Blessing

OK, its Friday, how about some good news? Listen to this..."Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ". It's from Ephesians 1:3 and it confirms that we are BLESSED! Not just a little bit, not just a handful of blessings but blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ! Maybe your week has been challenging and you've arrived here on Friday not having received all you and hoped. According to this verse you already have it and it may manifest today! This may be the day that all of those deals close...your house sells...that relationship get that needed check in the mail...can you imagine something fantastic coming right to you today? Lift up your voice and praise God for He has given to you EVERY spiritual blessing you need to conquer every challenge. Enjoy your blessings and your weekend!

Tailor Made

“ For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. ” Psalm 139:13-14 There is a great deal of attention being given to the way things are being made today, and where they are being made. Many people will buy only items manufactured in the USA. I believe that this is because they are proud of the country they live in and they want to support it by investing in its products. Let's stay with that train of thought and realize that you and I were created by God. God doesn't make junk! In fact we are fearfully and wonderfully made! So shouldn't we be proud of the One who made us and support Him by investing in His products? Things like faith, hope, love and His house of worship....the church? One of the ways we worship Him is by gathering together with other people that are only interested in His products. We take that time to acknowledge Him,

Clear Mental Pictures

The Bible tells us that people perish for lack of VISION. As the founder of a non-profit whose mission is to help people turn dreams2destiny, VISION is very important to me. And if we die without it, it should be very important to all of us. In his book "Contagious Leadership", John Maxwell gives us one definition...VISION: a clear mental picture of a better tomorrow, given by God, which moves a person to believe that it not only could be done, but it should be done. Let me add to that..."When we don't look ahead, we start to become dead!" A vision is often compared to the birth of a child because of the similarities. When you "give birth" to child your body changes, your pain and your tolerance increase and you have the most trauma right before the delivery. It's the same with a vision. With an idea or a mission you go through the pains and the ridiculous changes forced upon you because you are after the end result. Sadly, many people stop "p

Hold Fast

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." Hebrews 10:23 Belief is a powerful tool. If you believe it you can achieve it. It's my sixth grade daughters motto. Holding fast to hope describes the person who clings on to hope...who grasps on to hope with all of their strength. If we are going to arrive at the place of promise...that destination God has prepared for us to arrive at, we will have to hold fast to what we believe in. Hold on with all of our strength. Seize that HOPE today! Say out loud what you believe in your heart. And remember, if you believe it, you WILL achieve it!

Are you Anxious?

Phil 4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Do NOT be anxious? Are you serious? Our company may shut down this month! My child is sick! The electricity is going to be shut off tomorrow! All of these would seem valid reasons to let anxiousness into our lives. Still we are told to not be anxious about ANYTHING! Anything includes all of the reasons that you could come up with to stress out today. We get the word anxiety from this word. Anxiety leads to worry and stress and a variety of other toxic emotions. So how can we defeat this anxiety and do what we should? Take your requests to God...pray! It seems simple but as you develop your relationship with the Lord, He brings many good things into our lives. His peace. His peace goes beyond where your intellect stops. And when that peace r

Explore and Discover

Today I have the privilege of joining two of my friends in marriage. This young couple has been dating for seven years. How fitting it is that seven is the number of completion in the bible. Eight is the number of new beginnings! As I thought about this couple I realized that they have been on a wonderful journey of discovery. You can get to know a great deal about a person when you hang out with them for that long. So many young couples meet, have a short season of dating and then jump into this commitment of marriage without really knowing about their partner. They are probably more infatuated by this persons looks and personality and they neglect really getting to "know" them. The greatest joy in this life is the exploration and discovery part. Exploring who you are and what gifts that God has planted in you. Discovering how to use them and to be all that He designed you to be. You see we should explore faith, love and try to discover what it can mean to have a personal r

National Day of Prayer

I am glad that there is a national emphasis on prayer today. I truly believe that what God says is true and no matter how bad this nation becomes or how many mistakes we make, if we humble ourselves, seek His face and turn from our wayward path, God is going to do some great things. He will hear from heaven. That means that our plans will be dispatched so that He can assist us in carrying them out. He will forgive our sins...can I get an amen to that! All of us could use a little forgiveness. And lastly, He will heal our land. All that we are required to do is relinquish our control and let God do what He had planned for us. Many folks are gathering in special places to pray at specific times today. If you have a place, show your support. If you cant get to a place, make time in your car, at lunch or during a break and ask God to have His way with this land we call the United States of America...the land of the free and the home of the brave. This land is your land, this land is my lan

Do Your Best...

" Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth ." 2 Timothy 2:15 All of us want to be approved. Any time that I get a letter in the mail that says those three encouraging words,"you've been approved", I smile because I made it into the club! Yes, it's true that those usually only come from the credit card companies but it still feels good! The lesson is that we should be striving to grow closer to the Lord and to learn more about His ways. Personally I feel like much of the division we see in how church folks talk and act is because of incorrect handling of the word of truth. We have got to be careful when using God's Word. The BIBLE is our sword...our blueprint...a manual for understanding and navigating through life. If you want to put your life together, it will be easier when you read AND follow the directions. Only then can you live a life unashamed a

A Lesson from Midnight, my miniature dachshund

Last night I gave MIDI 4 little milk bones. He loves them and will even go to the kitchen and sit in front of the pantry door until I get up and get him some. I usually bring them over and lay them on the edge of the coffee table so he can get them when he wants them. Now I know that dogs love to bury their treats and save them. I've watched MIDI do this in the yard when he has been given a bone outside. Last night he grabbed a bone and went to the corner of the room. He placed the bone right in the very corner of the room away from the places that we walk. And then he started using his paws and pushing the carpet in the direction of the he was covering the bone up so I couldn't see it. There was nothing to cover it with but he went through the motions! It was hilarious! And then I realized how many times I have tried to place an "imaginary" covering over the things I wanted to hide from others. Countless times I wanted to bury something that I did not wan

Your Covered!

Wouldn't it be great if there was something in you that took over when you were just wore out or when your will just gives out?I was reading Romans 8 the other day at found out about the power that hope can have...hope saves. Look at verse 26 of Chapter 8…I like this part… the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will . There is something inside of us, planted by God, that engages when we disengage . When we cannot wrap words around what we want to pray…in kicks His spirit…interceding for us…with groans that words cannot express. There have been countless times in my life when I would find myself weeping over something that I really wasn’t mentally engaged in…I was not really emotionally tied to it yet the spirit was “waging a go

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Are we REALLY listening? Do we really hear that well? I was talking to a friend the other day about the way I used to sing songs as a kid. I would sing lyrics at the top of my voice in my car and many times, those were not even the lyrics. Example, Frankie Valli used to sing a song that went like this..."my eyes adored you, no one ever laid a hand on you, my eyes adored you..." But not when I sang it. I would sing, "while I was in Georgia, no one ever laid a hand on you while I was in Georgia."! What? That didn't even make sense! But it was what I thought I heard. Then my friend told me of one of his songs. Prince's Raspberry Beret did not sound like that for him. He was hearing "grass ferry parade"! Maybe that Christmas song posed a great question..."Do You Hear What I Hear?" We all seem to hear differently and we must always be cautious to make certain that we are really listening with ears of understanding. Maybe this trouble we have
