Slips and Falls

When I said, "My foot is slipping," your love, O LORD, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”- Psalm 94:18-19

Everybody slips. Everybody falls. Sometimes the fall is painful. Sometimes it leaves a mark. When I was a child I was playing wiffle ball in our backyard. You remember the skinny little yellow bat and the plastic ball with the holes in it. My friend Jim was at bat and I was pitching. I threw the infamous slider and Jim took a huge cut. The bat "slipped" out of his hands and flew towards my face. I was looking up to catch the ball and the bat hit me right on the chin and I "fell". The bat cut my chin wide open and it was hanging down and bleeding. I was more shocked really than hurt but there was alot of chaos and confusion that day! And today when I think about it, I laugh about what that had to look like. I no longer have the pain though I still have the scar!

I have experienced many spiritual slips and falls too. And each time that I fall the Lord supports me. When the chaos brings anxiety, the Lord brought a consoling peace that lead to joy. Let's face it, life can be difficult. People may not act the way we would like them too and the circumstances of life may bring confusion. You could slip and fall...repeatedly. The good news is that when you live for Christ, you get back up. Your anxiousness is quieted by his peaceful presence. You will go through what you are going through and one day, you will look back and not remember the pain anymore. You may even laugh about it as I did in my situation. Let the scar serve as a reminder of what you have "come" through! The joy of the Lord is your strength. Be courageous. Watch you step!
