Matthew 6:16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full.17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
I'm pretty sure that Jesus wanted "fasting" to be a lifestyle choice, just like giving and prayer. Often I confine this to a season of the year or a time of the month. I'm going to try and adopt a lifestyle of fasting in this coming year. I want to make more sacrifices regarding my agenda so that I can be prepared to receive more blessing in His. When fasting becomes natural, life can go supernatural!
It's been said that prayer moves the hand of God. If that is the case then fasting can move His fingers. You can target a specific illness and fast forward through it. You can even target a situation at work or at home and fast forward to a better place of power and agreement. When you make God important to you, God shows you how important you are to Him. Don't call attention to you but rather bring glory to Him. It's the principle we have learned each day this week...when you give, when you pray and when you fast...do it for Him and in a way that puts the spotlight on God and not you!
