Pieces of Faith

Imagine a young girl asleep on the second story of her home. She awakes one night—middle of the night—and there is the smell of acrid smoke. She stumbles to the door and opens it to a sheet of fire. The young lady slams the door against the flames and stumbles to the window and stares down into the smoke and the darkness. From the ground below the young lady hears her father's voice saying, "Honey, jump!" The young lady replies, "But, Daddy, I can't see you." The father replies, "It's all right, Honey, I can see you. Jump!" So the young lady jumps into her father's arms. Faith often comes in pieces. It's one piece of faith for that young lady to believe her father is there. It's another piece of faith to believe in her father, to feel that her father is able to catch her. It's the essence of faith to throw herself into a father's waiting arms. Don't worry if you're still learning how to rely upon your heavenly

Fresh Oil

Psalm 92:10 " I have been anointed with fresh oil " Perhaps you are not normally a morning person. You work for the weekend, enjoy them to their fullest and when the weekend is over it's hard to put a smile on your face. When you should be ready to go you are tired and worn out. This verse out of Psalms is for you today...YOU have been anointed with fresh oil so that their can be no friction today. Consider the fact that things will go smoothly today for you in every area. To be anointed means to be spiritually covered and flavored by the Anointed One who is Jesus. It's that fresh out of the shower, clean feeling when you are revived and refreshed. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm,  for God can be trusted to keep his promise . Hebrews 10:23 We live in a culture where promises are made and broken nearly every minute. I believe that a promise is only as good as the person that makes it. And out of all of the people that I have met in my life I have found that God is the only one we can totally rely upon. What He says He will do. So who He says you are, well, you are! With all of the earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and violence happening all around us, we need something to hope in that will be stable and constant. Something that never fails and is always dependable. Or should I say some one . Today, hold tight and don't waver. God can be trusted to keep His promise!

Who You Gonna Call?

In the second chapter of Acts we are able to see a picture of things that will take place as we draw closer to the return of the Lord. There are many terrible and horrific signs but there will also be some incredible things happening: young men seeing visions and older men dreaming dreams. People will rise up and begin to speak words from the heart of God to people all over the world and God will exponentially gather people to himself. As this "last days" scenario keeps playing out people are going to continue asking questions, seeking counsel and calling upon those who have the answers. As you get ready to answer the question of this blog, remember these words in verse 21 of the chapter: " But everyone who calls on the name of the L ord will be saved ". Ok, now, who you gonna call?

Nothing So Useless...

The other day while looking through some old papers I ran across this quote: " There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all " Drucker Instantly I began to think of my daily schedule. I thought about the people, the meetings, the conversations and the errands that would be a part of the day.  I felt like I was being very efficient and also a great steward of my time. But what if I was being super great at stuff I should not even be doing? Why did I meet those people? Is this meeting really important? Am I praying about what I will do today? A nugget of wisdom from Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord and our plans would be established. In other words, if I let God guide the "stuff" I won't ever feel like I am doing something that wasn't worthwhile. Consider today that not all good ideas are God ideas. God will direct the life and steps of anyone that calls upon Him. And when you are following His plans the

What If Apple Inc. was President?

With stocks on a roller coaster, all political parties at odds with each other and a growing dissatisfaction of the way this country is lead I wondered why we don’t just let Apple Inc. run the nation? Lost of my life I was a PC person with a Blackberry. I could not live without either of these devices. Then this little Cupertino company started to deliver some alternatives to me. They were shaped different, operated differently than mine did and looked like they would take some getting used to. It seemed that many people were jumping out of the PC and into the Mac, away from Blackberry to the Iphone. I was loyal, dedicated, a bit leery of change and unwilling to cross-over party boundaries . One day, I decided why not give it a try. I purchased the first generation Iphone at the end of its sales cycle and traded my PC in for a new MacPro. I was nervous and a bit anxious about the transition. For a season I was unable to email and text from my phone because my fingers rebelled fro

Just hearing the word may conjure up images that are not pleasant. Yet discipline for the believer is not a negative concept but a positive one. Hebrews 12:10 tells us, "God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.(I heard that AMEN!) Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those that have been trained by it." Notice that the act of discipline is for our good. God disciplines to keep your spiritual life on track. And honestly, I would rather humble myself than wait for God to do it. It is never easy to handle yet it is always productive. It produces a harvest of righteousness and peace! For everyone? No! For those that have learned the lesson that was required. For those that have been trained by it. Maybe you are in the midst of a spiritual spanking today and it hurts. Let the pain teach you the promise. You are about to see a harvest of right decisions, right r

We All Sin and Fall Short

One of the seven year old twins came to his father and said, “dad, when we sin, we get smaller don’t we? No the dad replied, why would you say that? Well, the bible says that “we all sin and fall short” . Perhaps we do get a little bit shorter "spiritually" when we miss the mark. The Word actually says, Romans 3:23  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24  Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. There is a plan that God has for us. Even though you and I may succumb to the power of sin and fall short, when we read on we see that God declares us righteous! In other words, He makes you right again! It all happened when Jesus died for the sin...past present and future! You did not deserve this kindness but praise the Lord, you get it anyway. So have you gotten a bit shorter? Let God make you right again! You have been freed from

One Miracle

Acts 9:32   Meanwhile, Peter traveled from place to place, and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lydda. 33  There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years. 34  Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly. 35  Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord . It just takes one miracle. One act of God, one supernatural burst of power, one miracle. Peter went from city to city looking for people that needed Christ. Some needed to have their minds reprogrammed, some needed financial help, some healing in their bodies. When he met Aeneas it was clear what his condition was. He hadn't been able to move for eight years. Peter spoke with authority and said " Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, grab your sleeping bag and get moving!" Immediately the man was healed. One man, one mirac

What Ya Thinking About?

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise . (Philippians 4:8 NLT) Do you ever have trouble controlling your thoughts? If a man is as he thinks, there are some moments when I am in real trouble! There are ideas that pop into this head of mine that need to be held captive. I have found that the sooner I place a good thought in my head the sooner the bad one will leave. The next time negative, self-defeating thoughts cross your mind don't let them live them. Tell them to keep passing through and out and fix your thoughts on what is true, honorable and right. When we focus on all that is excellent and worthy of praise we bring that into our life. Could you use some good news today? What ya thinking about?

Have Faith in God

Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. (Mark 11:22, 23 NLT) There is an amazing amount of power available to the person that has faith in God. Power to have obstacles removed that hinder your progress. Power to watch the things that obstruct your view disappear! And how do you get that incredible power? You must REALLY BELIEVE it will happen and REALLY NOT DOUBT. Try that today and get rid of your personal mountains. Have faith in God!

Tune In

Proverbs 2:2   Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.  3  Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.  4  Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. NLT Tune your ears to wisdom. Easy to say but takes some effort to really tune in. Some folks don't like to "tune in". Have you ever been in the car with people before who listen to the radio? Not just a part of it, they listen to ALL of it! They roll up and down the dial searching for a station to listen to and they never stop and let the song play all the way through because they are in constant SCAN mode. They are never happy, never resting, always changing. For many folks I think this is how they look for God. This is the method they use in trying to “tune in” to His purpose and plan…they are always "scanning", searching for the next seminar, DVD or series that will change everything. What ends up happening is that they never lock in on the right f

Gotta Have Faith

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life. "  Romans 1:17 Faith has an amazing power. Taking a risk that requires you to rely on God will not only make you stronger, it will bring you more enthusiasm and joy as well. In fact it is through faith that a person doing the right things has life. Can I ask you today, are you truly "living" the life? Do you enjoy what you are doing or are you going through the motions? God is ready to make everything right. That can only be accomplished by faith. Faith begins by putting your trust in the Lord. If you can relinquish control you can be blessed more that you know! It's time for you to enjoy the life that God has planned for you. Let faith arise and trust Him...I got a feeling that this is going to be a very special day! F or A ll I T rust H im

Scheduling Off-Time

I wonder if this has ever happened to you: woke up today, realized that I missed my summer vacation this year as the kids start school Thursday! Already? What happened to summer? I got even more tired and exhausted after that revelation consumed me. There is a reason that life has breaks in it. A time to work, a time to worship and yes, a time to rest! How do you schedule your time off? For me there is always something that seems like it must be done or needs to be watched over. I started off this year intending to take a short little break at least four times this year. I accomplished the time off in February. Stayed on schedule for two months! Since then, I have done a terrible job at keeping the balance. Perhaps I need to revise the way I schedule time away from the daily grind?I think so. How about you? Are you a workaholic who is allowing what you think needs to be done to rob you of time for your family and yourself? Take a personal inventory today and see what the Lord can do

Everythings Different

There are moments in life when everything changes, the world is synchronized and your spirit, mind and body come together. For me this past weekend "changed" everything. Every year our ministry has an event to help launch kids into the school year with free backpacks and supplies. We also cut their hair and fed them. We were able to put backpacks on 400 kids, fill them with supplies and cut 100 heads of hair too! Watching the mothers and fathers come into to be blessed by God was inspiring and moving in many ways. I was so thankful that God had blessed all of our people in such a way that we were able to accomplish something wonderful for Him. On Saturday night, our junior and senior high youth finished their first ever four night revival. At least a dozen kids came from the back2school event to be part of our ministry for the first time. Seven of them were saved! And then Sunday at The Landing, we used our service to celebrate children with our theme being, " children

Earning a Good Reputation

There is a proverb that states " a good name is better than desirable riches." Your words are important. Your actions even more so. And your name, well that is beneficial in many ways but a good name, a solid reputation has to be earned. Proverbs 3:1  My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. 2  If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. 3  Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. 4  Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation . You don't earn the kind of rep we are talking about today through acquisition of things. It's not even tied to your lineage or where you stack up in society. Earning a good reputation comes from storing up the things that God says and using them in daily living. You have to read or listen to the Bible to keep a surplus of those comma

Evolution vs. Creation

The other day while driving through town I saw a billboard on a sign out in front of a church that basically said their new series was a three week look at Evolution vs. Creation. I smiled for a moment and then suddenly I got a little "miffed" that we would need to take any time at all to debate how we got here. I thought why should we use a church service to try and justify something that is clearly obvious when you believe the Word of God. Take a look at Isaiah 42:5...   God, the L ord , created the heavens and stretched them out. He created the earth and everything in it. He gives breath to everyone, life to everyone who walks the earth . In case you missed that, read it again...God created it all and did it all! Guess now we can talk about things that really pertain to our to walk in faith, how to listen to the voice of God or how to identify and assimilate the gifts of the spirit. Let's build up and encourage the Body of Christ so that they can b

Need a Grant?

Proverbs 2:6  For the L ord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7  He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. 8  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him. 9  Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. Could you use a " grant " today? Proverbs 2 talks about how the Lord is ready to help. Notice that he wants to grant WISDOM and some good ole common sense. Anyone can apply for these grants but there are some special requirements to receive them. You must be morally and ethically sound. You must act honestly and do the best you can to live in right-standing with others. You do your part and the grant-giver will do his. The power in these grants will alter your life in many ways. Common sense is a wonderful thing. But this wisdom goes deeper. Wisdom penetrates your heart and brings inner and outer

Love to Give!

Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give !  This little reminder in Proverbs 21:26 can change the way we live our lives! Generosity begets generosity and a person that gives to others will be given to. That is a lesson that godly folks learn is a way of life not a simple action. When you give with love you will love to give. For many years I was in a gathering mode. I wanted to get more so that I would have more. What I realized was that I would never be able to accomplish MY selfish agenda. As I grew in Christ I understood that God was always interested in me and me getting what I need. The older I get the more I see that what I need is indeed what I want! So work hard, keep moving forward and when God blesses you, turn around and bless another. Godly people LOVE to GIVE !

Highly Favored

When is the last time that you got up in the morning and called yourself a success? It sounds sort of funny to look in the mirror and say, hey good lookin, you who are highly favored ! There are only 2 kinds of people, those that get up in the morning and say…Good Morning Lord! And those that get up and say, Good Lord, its morning! Today, why don't you call yourself a success…expect yourself to be promoted…see yourself in situations where the absolute best things are happening to you. Ask the Lord to guide you to the places where you can have the most impact, where your gifts can be utilized to their fullest. When I look through spiritual eyes at people in the circles that I run, I see people acknowledging everything but the favor of God. They are living under curses of poverty, sickness, confusion, depression…the list is unbelievable. And all of these things did not “happen” to them. They agreed with the spirit of the thing and became partners with it…attached to it. We must
