Seven Verses

Today I was reading Psalm 34 in the Message Bible and as I read each of the first seven verses, my spirit began to be strengthened. Joy filled me up inside, I smiled and thanked the Lord for His divine protection and provision. Take a moment today and quiet the noise around you and read this out loud. I pray that it lifts you up like it did me! Be blessed and share a cup with someone:) PS 34:1  I bless  God  every chance I get; my lungs expand with his praise. 2  I live and breathe  God ; if things aren't going well, hear this and be happy: 3  Join me in spreading the news; together let's get the word out. 4   God  met me more than halfway, he freed me from my anxious fears. 5  Look at him; give him your warmest smile. Never hide your feelings from him. 6  When I was desperate, I called out, and  God  got me out of a tight spot. 7   God 's angel sets up a circle of protection around us while we pray.

That's Not What I Planned!

1 We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. 2 People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. 3 Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. Proverbs 16 That's not what I planned! I never thought that would happen! There have been so many times in my life when I made plans only to have them all change as the Lord took over. I thought that what I was doing was the right thing but my heart was not really “in it” and the heart is what is most important to Him. So now I am trying daily to surrender my plans, my choices, my thoughts and my words to Him so that He can make something good out of them. What was your plan when you woke up today? Perhaps the Lord has already started to change it! If that’s the case, take a deep breath and know that He is about to turn everything around for you. The plan He has is good and success is guaranteed!

“ Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut .” Proverbs 10:19 I think this scripture ought to appear on the homepage of every person’s Facebook page! It really is amazing how we often use the social networks to vent and voice our opinion. You really start to notice just how callous and hard we can be when a nationwide incident comes up and these networks start buzzing. Some folks need to unwind so they can learn to be ind! I have had my share of what I could only call “vocal vomiting” which is when I open my mouth and words come out that no one wants to hear because they are awful. I’ve learned that when my mind is not showing the right pictures, I need to turn the sound off! Use your words to build up people and promote growth rather than destroy. Faith comes by “hearing”. Well hurt does too so choose wisely what you say. Too much talk can take you to the wrong place. Be sensible and use words to win people :) “When words keep you f

Inner Beauty

1 Peter 3:3-4 Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within , the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. I have always been the type of person that can get ready very quickly for the day. Picking out clothes is not tough and taking care of my hair, well, you know that can't be hard as there is not too much of it left! I love the lesson that the Lord wants us to get here: outward beauty comes from letting inner beauty out! In other words when we have the right spirit, we will always glow with the love and peace that only comes from knowing Christ. So grab your Bible first and pump up your heart by feeding your spirit. That gentle spirit is so precious to God and so important for you. Inner beauty never needs makeup:) Now, go get em gorgeous!

It Won't Be Long

How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? 3Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds . 4Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted . Habakkuk 1:2-4 Ever felt like this? Like all of your prayers are bouncing off the walls and God can’t hear them? Discouraged by the fact that so many wrongs seem to be tolerated and justice seems distant? I think we all have. Seasons come and go and though we face times when “darkness” would seem to prevail, it wont be long until JOY returns! It did not take long for the Lord to answer and He said, “ For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. ” Are you ready to see and experience something unbelievabl

Set Free

2 Corinthians 1:10-11 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. There is no doubt that evil is present in our world and bad things happen all the time. In this chapter Paul talks about some of the troubles he had while trying to share his faith and persuade people to follow Christ. Many times, circumstances and situations beyond his control occurred. But every time, God was in control and deliverance was the outcome. Deliverance means to be set free. I like this scripture because it assures us that this help in my difficulties is not simply a one time thing. I can attest to that in my life too. I have seen and felt God's rescue in the past. I am experiencing that help right now in the present. And because of this pattern of behavior, I

No Fear

Fear has been defined as False Evidence Appearing Real. It feels real, it sounds real, but in reality, it cannot hurt you. Things in the dark are like that. That is why its time for all of us to come out of the darkness and walk in this marvelous light: Christ has set us free…NO FEAR! 1 John 4:18 tells us that “perfect love casts out fear”. In other words, when we fall in love with Jesus, we become connected to the One who is able to turn fear into faith, doubt into certainty and to make victors out of people that were once victims. You and I have a purpose…to share our faith and experiences with Christ in a world that wants to stop being afraid all the time. We have the keys that unlock the answers that they need. No weapon that tries to rise up against you can win…NO FEAR!

Overcome Evil

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good . Romans 12:21 This has been a long, hard week for so many. From the East Coast through the Midwest, trying times and difficult seasons have come. It takes this kind of adversity to show each of us just how resilient we can be and how much our dependency needs to be on something or someone greater than ourselves.  Jesus said that in this world we would have trouble. Our faith would be tested, our beliefs challenged and our convictions pushed to the limit. Evil is present in this world and it is not going away. So, together, with the God's help, we march forward doing good for each other and showing why this is the greatest country in the world.  Boston has led the way this week and shown us that there is no limit to the power of love and kindness. Texas would need to know that too. And as we enter storm season here in Oklahoma, we know that God is in control and that no matter how bad things get, we have the power of t

Love can...

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. There is an amazing power in love. Love can calm you down when you are on edge. Love can change your focus when you are looking in the wrong direction. Love can usher in humility to keep pride from rising up. Love looks to benefit others and chooses to not engage in quarrels and dissension. Love smiles when goodness prevails. Love leaps when honesty surfaces. Love covers all. Love never fails. Today, choose love in EVERY situation, and EVERY relationship. Love will ALWAYS protect you. Let your words bring life and your actions bring help to those around you. Pour your heart into people. Let LOVE be your greatest aim!

Power of Love

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. There is nothing good that ever comes from hatred. It breeds many other harmful things and causes progress to stop, lives to end and hope to be lost. The good news is that there is something stronger than hatred. It's the power of love. Love has the power to overcome evil, hatred and every other form of evil. Love has the power to stop bitterness and envy. Love resolves conflict. Love covers a multitude of things. The Bible says love conquers all! Today, why don't you let love cover you and bring you some peace. Wrap love around your life and weave it through your words and let it transform others and you at the same time. That's the power of love!

Pray for Boston

Psalm 75:10 (NLT) - For God says, “I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly.” The horrific incidents at the Boston Marathon have put people on edge and rocked many families. It's difficult to imagine just how dark this world is and what kind of evil exists around us. Unfortunately there are many people who are influenced by evil and use their lives to do awful things. Words could never comfort those that lose loved ones in times like these. Still, I wish to pass on this promise today that reminds us that God will indeed break the strength of the wicked. The power of the godly will rise in this. Power to endure, power to continue, power to heal. May God bless all of those in Boston who are looking for answers and trying to understand this senseless act of violence. May your power increase every day.

Romans 5:3-4 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. It's hard to learn how to rejoice when we are in the midst of tough times. No one is naturally happy when things are not going well. To rejoice when we run into problems is a learned skill. Why is it so important to learn this? Its important because some crucial parts of your spiritual DNA are developed by rejoicing in trials: endurance, character and hope. People quit too easy these days. They have a lack of "stick-to-it-iveness". Staying joy-filled will help strengthen your ability to endure. The Bible tells us that our gift, our abilities will take us into great opportunities. Our character will determine how well we do those opportunities. Hope will fuel us with the energy and stamina we need

The Bible talks of casting down imaginations. It's what we are to do with any thoughts that rise up contrary to the Word of God. We are born with incredible minds that are full of imagination. When imagination is used creatively it can unleash beautiful things. However, when our imagination runs wild, watch out. Whenever images in your mind start showing up that don't fit in the context of a life lived for Christ, you and I cannot afford to let them develop. In our spiritual "dark room" as we see them beginning to develop we must cast them down and hurl them away from our lives. Take captive those thoughts...demolish them before they demolish you! I have an exercise that I do when an image is in my head that was not invited and does not belong shows up...I say out loud "delete". In my mind I am pressing a button like the delete button on my computer and erasing that image. Then I immediately place a positive image in its place. Is your imagination r

Fix Your Eyes

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Cor 4:16-18 I've never really thought of the troubles that I go through as light and momentary. In fact, when I go through difficulties they seem heavy and never-ending! I find myself asking God how can I not lose heart? But notice that it says are troubles are ACHIEVING for US an eternal glory that far outweighs all of those troubles! In other words, something good is happening inside of something difficult. If we can hang on, stand firm and press through this season we will have an incredible payoff on the other side! The only way to make this happen is to fix our eyes not on what we can see but what we have faith to believe. I see my

Never Give Up!

Did you know that Sir Winston Churchill took three years to finish the 8th grade because he had trouble learning English? Ironically years later he was invited to speak at the commencement exercises at Oxford University! As he arrived in front of the very appreciative applause of his admirers he walked to the podium; cigar, cane and top hat in tow. He removed the cigar from his mouth, set down his top hat and looked right into the eyes of the audience and said, " never give up !"After several seconds of silence he shouted once again, " never give up !" A profound silence gripped the crowd as he grabbed his hat and cigar and descended from the platform. His speech was over. That six-word exhortation was undoubtedly not the most eloquent speech given at that distinguished university. But I am certain that every person in the audience on that day remembered this one big message for the rest of their lives. Discouragement has stopped many people from achieving the

Habakkuk 1:2-4 How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry,but you do not come to save. Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look,I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous,so that justice has become perverted. Do you ever complain? Have you ever spent part of your day whining about the way that your life was going? As I read the words of this scripture today I began to see a bit if myself in these words. I have moments where I wonder why terrible things are happening and yes, I may even ask God if He is still there! I whine about aches and pains, lack of what I want and I even complain about the injustices in this life. I wonder why God won't just come and save me. Is He even listening? Jesus never said that the world would be fai

My Heart is a Blob

Psalm 22:14 I’m a bucket kicked over and spilled, every joint in my body has been pulled apart. My heart is a blob of melted wax in my gut.I’m dry as a bone,my tongue black and swollen. They have laid me out for burial in the dirt . Remember that song they used to sing on the show "Hee Haw" years ago? Gloom, despair and agony on me? It's so easy to throw a pity party for one that often times I too can join in the chorus: "if it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all!" Those feelings are seen vividly in this psalm of David. Combine David's emotional trauma with the Message translation and you have some wild imagery. "I'm a bucket kicked over and spilled." I bet some of you can relate to that! And then he says, "my heart is a blob of melted wax in my gut". Now I know that David did not use these words but they sure do express these deep internal feelings that we must come to grips with

Don't Bring Me Down

Don't be fooled by those who say such things,  for " bad company corrupts good character ." 1 COR 15:33 Many people think that they have the power in themselves alone to change others. They marry people that don’t have the same standards and they hang with people that do different things. Their motives are pure and honorable but unfortunately, most of the time, rather than changing others for good they find themselves diminished and demoralized. Someone once said people are like elevator buttons…they will either take you up or take you down. There is nothing more frustrating than getting on an elevator that you think is going up, only to find it going the other direction. Or someone gets in and pushes every button between where you are and where you are going! Examine your connections. Delete and remove people, things and places that drain life out of you and steal your joy. Look for people that inspire, motivate and ignite the great things in

Move Towards Love

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.   And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. HEB 10:24-25 When was the last time you really put some thought and energy into making someone else’s life a little better? Or the last time you gave someone a compliment? There is nothing more powerful than encouragement, in fact, my belief is that if you accentuate and point out the good things in others, those areas in them will become stronger. Perhaps we spend way too much time trying to strengthen our weaknesses than developing our strengths. Say kind things, compliment others and point out the good in the people you meet. Use your words and actions to elevate and not to deflate. Take a few moments right now to think of ways to motivate and spur one another on to good works. Build people up and be careful to not tear them down. And

What Does Jesus Want ME To Do?

Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” What does Jesus want me to do now? Usually after the celebration of our resurrected Savior people are different. Some have been introduced to Christ for the first time and others returned to Him. This week, many people are navigating their way through work and home as a fully devoted follower of Christ. Something changed on Easter and now they feel different and may even be talking differently. But what now? What do we do with this newfound fait

Quality Living

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. 2 Peter 1:8,9 Intrigued at all by what “these qualities” may be? You just have to look right before these verses for the answer. To be effective and productive you need GOODNESS, KNOWLEDGE, SELF-CONTROL, PERSEVERANCE, GODLINESS, MUTUAL AFFECTION and LOVE. Not a long list but a very potent one. If we could attempt to live each day with a large supply of these qualities we can be assured that life will be like it was designed for us to be by God. What qualities are increasing in your life right now? Do you need to adjust any? Exercise your faith today and then add these things to your faith. Things are about to look up!

Up, Alive and Out

Now that the services and Easter celebrations have ended, our goal is that the flame that was lit yesterday would continue to burn brightly as we move through our lives. There is always something special about Easter because hearts are sensitive to the Lord and what He desires to do in their lives. I hope you were able to enjoy a service in your community yesterday! What should we do with Jesus now? He's alive and living in us right? Well what better place to find answers than the Word of God... Acts 10:39 MSG " And we saw it, saw it all, everything he did in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem where they killed him, hung him from a cross. But in three days God had him up, alive, and out where he could be seen ." God had Jesus Up, Alive and Out! When He is our Lord and Savior the same thing occurs. He lifts us up, puts His spirit in us to make us alive and then He sends us out to tell others about Him. Don't let the message of the resurrected Christ stay
