If Only it Were That Easy

Well here we are...another Friday and I can almost hear the shouts coming from all of you! This week has taken a toll on me in many ways and I have had to learn how to fall into Jesus while growing up myself. I must admit, i can be quite a baby sometimes:) If only it were as easy as canceling a day and going back to bed! Maybe you have had some challenges this week as well. Your git up and go has got up and went. Take a moment to refresh yourself today. Stop everything. Breathe. Now thank the Lord for all He is doing in you. Your breakthrough is about to come and that is why things are so hard. I know this pillow may be calling out to you too. Don't listen! Get out of bed and let's do this!

Throwback Thursday: FaithBook

Sometime ago, as social media was gaining traction, I did a message called FaithBook and why we need to understand these networks whether we agree with them and use them or not.  I used Facebook, Twitter and Blogging to make some points about our faith and how we share it. How do you tell others about what Jesus means to you? Today as you sip your cup of joe, click on this link and relax as you listen in to part 1 of this series:) FaithBook Part 1 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will . Romans 12:2 MSG says , Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking . Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immat

It is What it Is!

1 Timothy 1:12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. Paul was thankful for a relationship with the Lord and for being afforded the opportunity to work in ministry. Paul was happy where he was. And because he had learned how to make the best out of each and every situation he was in, God considered him faithful and blessed his life. This week, things are back to normal. School is back in session here in Tulsa and everyone is going back to work. Unfortunately not everyone will have the attitude that Paul had. If we cannot get "happy" about where we are right now, it's probably a given that you won't be happy anywhere. Oftentimes we think that a change of scenery, a new job or new house will make everything alright. That's situational happiness. Our happiness cannot be rooted in things, places, or people. People will change, places will change too and things come and go. Happiness

The Gospel According to Manilow

A few years ago I was sitting in the living room, reminiscing about the 70's. Most of you know that I am a fan of the 70's and 80's music. In fact I was inspired to go to music school after seeing a Barry Manilow concert in Columbus Ohio in 1977. I've never forgotten that. In fact as I preach and share my life with the folks at The Landing, I see and hear God speak in a variety of ways. So as a tribute to Mr. Manilow, here is a daily thought featuring song titles. It was God who said first, “ I write the songs that make the whole world sing . But I can’t smile without you . You and I are not like two ships that pass in the night. We are One Voice . With me you can weather life’s storms. And one day you will say, I’ve made it through the rain .” So Even Now , we've got to stop asking ourselves could this be the magic and stop tryin’ to get the feelin’ again . It’s daybreak ! Let’s hang on to what we’ve got because it looks like we made it to where God wa

7 Times Today

Psalm 119:164-165 I will praise you seven times a day because all your regulations are just. Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble. I think that as I read this today I decided that it would be a great idea to try scheduling my "praise breaks". We schedule meetings and other appointments, how about 7 times a day to praise the Lord? So today starting at 8am I will have a praise break every two hours. My 7th praise break will complete a 12 hour portion of the day! And don't forget the benefits of great peace and sure footing wherever I go! I would hope that praising the Lord would be a constant in each and every day. But sometimes things happen that try to take away that peace and pull the rug out from under my feet. By acknowledging the Lord and thanking Him throughout the day perhaps I can ensure that my praise breaks will once again usher stability and peace into my life. Want to join me in this little trial today?

Friday Funzy

Laughter is good medicine for the soul! Imagine that every time you laugh, your spirit gets a big hug! What you are willing to let go  of will determine what God  is able to let in  to your life:)

Serve the Lord

Luke 4:38-39 After leaving the synagogue that day, Jesus went to Simon’s home, where he found Simon’s mother-in-law very sick with a high fever. “Please heal her,” everyone begged. Standing at her bedside, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And she got up at once and prepared a meal for them . Peters mother in law was not feeling well. Jesus was with Peter when they arrived at his house and Peter asked for her to be healed. Jesus takes charge, heaven is summoned and instantly the illness is healed. But it's the next part that always catches my attention. She's been in bed with a high fever, certainly weak and uncomfortable, and when she is healed she jumps out of bed and makes dinner! What a woman! I can hear all the women in the world saying Amen right now! But she wasn't healed so that they could eat! I see people all the time that the Lord touches and heals. They come for prayer and Jesus meets them right where they are. Many of those that are healed seem to f

It's ALL Good!

I am adopting a new philosophy these matter what the struggle or the trial, I am using this phrase: " it's all good !" You may say that sounds kind of dumb because everything isn't always good. You are correct about that but I have been reading a great deal about the negative effects of worry and anxiety. I am also certain that my blood pressure could be lowered a bit so if I can get out of my head and be controlled by my spirit... it's all good ! Scripture tells us to "count it all joy" when we face various types of trials and difficulties. We do this because we know that the tough times are making us tougher. In all of the challenges, God is up to something. In the Book of Philippians we are told to rejoice and to give thanks IN everything! Not FOR everything, but IN it. It may not always feel good at the time but by the time its done, God can make it something good. Maybe you are worried about a certain situation today. Perhaps you

One Voice

Romans 15:1-6 We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves. We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord. For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, “The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.” Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled. May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice , giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Being considerate is a trait of the strong. Our mission ought to be making life better for those we are connected to. As believers we are tapped into divine power and weapons which we use to build up and defend t

What Not to Wear

My daughter has been watching nearly every episode of this show as she has it being recorded on my DVR. Apparently it's the final season. After seeing several shows with her I began to learn some things from the key points of each show. Things like: 1- You can change the way a person looks by changing their hair color and cutting it shorter . Doesn't help me as my hair is changing color on its own by going grayish white and if you cut it any shorter you'd be taking away the skin on my head! Ted knows what I'm talking about!! And when Carmindy does makeup and brings out the beauty that's already there, well it's just too bad I can't do that because for many of these women it's a game changer and a face changer! 2- Clothes that fit right can actually make you look better! Nearly my entire wardrobe fits wrong. As Stacy and Clinton toss out the lucky makeover participant to give them an update, I realized that they would probably throw all of my outf

Fat Blockers 5

Ok, so I have been praying that you would pack on some spiritual pounds this week. It's time to be living large and supercharged! No devil will be able to push you around. No winds of adversity can blow you over. This is your time! Fat Blocker #5- Send someone else! Truth be told, I do not believe that there has been a person that stepped out on nothing in faith to obey God and hasn’t found themselves in a place where they wanted to run away and escape God's calling. Moses was overwhelmed…you may be too. But it’s always too soon to quit. This IS your time! Perseverance…patience has to be able to accomplish its work. Staying in the fight, remaining in the hunt not only builds up strength and endurance, it develops character. Get rid of those fat blockers and get ready to flourish. This is YOUR time! The last word always belongs to God… Who am I ? God says, I called you by name and I know who I am…and I know what I want you to do. What do I say ? God says, I am wit

Fat Blockers 4

This week we are looking at Fat Blockers: things we say or think that keep us from becoming more of what God designed us to be. All of the fat blockers are part of the excuses Moses used in Exodus 3 and 4 as God was trying to use him. Fat Blocker #4- I'm not very eloquent . If you start to look at these fat blockers you can see a pattern that may remind you of an opera singer warming up….me,me,me,me,me. Who am I? What do I say? What if I’m not heard? I’m not smooth in my speech! Personally I can relate a bit to Moses here. When the Lord talked to me about starting a church in Tulsa, I was a little freaked out. This part of the state is known for some amazing and talented ministers and ministries. I thought that I would surely stumble over words and probably confuse more people than I would help! Besides that, I can say some pretty strange things! Moses did have some speech issues…he stuttered. They call it a speech impediment because it impedes our speech. BUT GOD…God can ch

Fat Blockers 3

So, are you feeling any fatter? Now that you know who you are and who it is that gives you the right words to say, you should feel like something is growing inside of's the spirit of God! Fat Blocker #3- What if they don't believe me ? All of these questions this week were asked by Moses as God was trying to utilize him to bring millions of people to freedom and follow a divine plan for their life. Moses was afraid that the people would not believe the things he would share. again, the problem was Moses:) We always run the risk of not being heard the way we wanted to be heard…but God will always accomplish what He wants if we are being used by Him. Fear of rejection, being shunned, becoming an outcast are always going to be hovering around us but if we are relentless in our pursuit of being available, saying what he tells us to say and knowing who we are in Him, all things will just work out. Its a promise in the Word of God. (Romans 8:28) the things you have to

Fat Blockers 2

We are moving on to day number two in our quest to eliminate fat blockers from our spiritual diet. It's time to get into the meat of the Gospel and become "thicker" believers! I give you permission this week to become more spiritually fat and flourishing:) Fat Blocker #2- What do I Say ? Well, lets stop right there because its not really about what YOU say but rather what He is able to say through you. The real issue here is that this dream and vision God has given you has more to do with Him than you. You cannot manufacture it, it has to be God-directed. Your mouth just needs to be willing to be used…you speak what He places in you. We have all had times where we said something and just couldn’t believe that we really said that out loud. God knows when and where to get the point across. He was even able to make a donkey speak once to a man that just would not listen. We are to be a vessel of honor, meat for the Masters use. So fire up the grill and get ready for tho

Fat Blockers

Psalm 92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing. While reading this psalm I began to notice a far as spiritual things are concerned, I am supposed to get larger. If the good Lord intended for us to flourish and be fatter, what hinders us from putting on the weight and being spiritual heavyweights? Are we using too many "fat blockers"? This week I am going to highlight a different fat blocker each day. Let's consider a fat blocker to be something we may say that keeps us from moving forward in the plan that God has for us. It blocks us from becoming more filled with His spirit and living large:) Fat Blocker #1: Who am I? Moses was overwhelmed by what God was asking him to do. It seemed impossible to him for God to be able to u

Hope Does Not Disappoint

Life isn't funny sometimes. Things don't go as we expect, people don't act like they should and our dreams can get squashed before they even start to take shape. But God is always there working in the midst of the happenings to build a better you. Look at this scripture: Romans 5:3-5 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love. I are probably saying how can I rejoice in what's going on right now? You grin and bear it because you believe in something better coming. Too often we sabotage His dreams for us with our negative words and thoughts. Trouble works on you but eventually works in you and builds character. Good character helps y

Someone to Watch Over Me

I think we would all agree that it would be good to have someone watching over us all the time. Someone that could help you when you walk into trouble and someone that would keep trouble from walking into you! There is a little verse in Psalm 121 that tells us we do! PS 121:5-8 The Lord watches over you -the Lord is your shade at tour right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm-he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore . You and I have someone who cools us down when things get heated. Someone that keeps us safe from things we can see and things that we can't. He watches over our LIFE! Take just a moment today and thank God you are being watched every minute of every day. You are covered, protected, preserved, provided for and passionately loved!

You Can Endure

One of the characteristics of a mature believer is endurance. Great endurance and patience will be evident in the life of one that trusts in the Lord. Take a closer look at that word: end ur ance... U R right in the middle of it! When I think about endurance I think about sports. If I want to run a long race I have to build up my endurance. I have to begin running. As I get stronger and can endure more I add more distance to my run. Weight training is the same. I start with lighter weights and increase my repetitions until I am able to handle that weight easily. Then I add weight if I am trying to build muscle. As believers we should be able to endure difficulties. There are many things that you may never get over but you can endure . I think about Jesus and the cross and the bible says that "for the joy set before Him He endured the cross..." It was hurtful and it was difficult. But He focused on the future and sitting beside His father in order to endure the pain.

Turn the Light On

Psalm 119:129-130 Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them! The teaching of your word gives light,so even the simple can understand. As the pastor, I hear many people talk about how hard it is to understand the Bible. I get asked often "what's the best version to read?" My answer, "the one you understand". Jesus wants you to know Him. He promised that when you seek Him you will find Him. He said "ask and you will receive". He used a variety of people to write different letters that would reveal His plan piece by piece to each of us. Reading His Word brings strength and builds our faith and when you hear it taught, that light of revelation comes. You need a local faith family to connect to make it easier to grow spiritually. Maybe you tried before to get into the Bible and then gave up. Why not give it another try? Start with the New Living Translation or The Message and see what begins to open up for you. You may be surprised by how simpl

Open the Windows!

Malachi 3:10-12 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you . I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Your crops will be abundant, for I will guard them from insects and disease. Your grapes will not fall from the vine before they are ripe,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “Then all nations will call you blessed, for your land will be such a delight,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I'm going out on a limb and saying that everyone of us are in favor of seeing those windows of heaven open and blessings poured out upon us. I'm so thankful that the Lord added the "try me" part. Many years so when our church was just starting we were so confident in this promise from God that we offered folks a 90 day money back deal on their tithes. If they did not experience a change i

Fabulous Friday

Always remember that you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and twice as beautiful as you've ever imagined. Today will be just like you...fabulous! Being fabulous rocks! Be encouraged and enjoy the weekend:)

Call Me , Maybe?

Have you realized how our lives have changed since the addition of the cellphone? When we use the cellphone to connect we no longer ask people how they are, we ask them where they are. With caller ID and text messaging, we no longer have to have a conversation with anyone unless we want to pick up the phone. Our kids say, don’t call me…text me!  I miss the days when we could dial a number and get a real person and an actual conversation on the other end. I long for those days when you didn ’t have to hear an answering machine tell you when you could speak and leave your message. Aren ’t you glad God does not require a family plan or a basic media package to connect to Him? Aren't you glad He does not say, call me, maybe? In Jeremiah 33:3 He says, Call me and I will answer . Not just that but he goes on to say I’ll show you great and unsearchable things that you do not know. Amazing things are about to be revealed to you. Valuable information that you and I can use. So for
