Luke 14:11 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. ” This weekend I met many new people from all over our city as our church hosted an event called Last Day. The drama depicted real life situations and how our choices affect our life here and in the hereafter. When we come face to face with our own mortality we are changed. To see people being made right with the Lord, relationships mended and spirits that come alive was such an amazing and humbling experience. I am always astonished by the power of the Lord every time I witness it at work. It was made so clear to me that we must do all we can to make sure people have an opportunity to make Jesus their Lord and Savior. Everything else comes together when we do. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to your life. Share your faith today and bring Jesus into the forefront. Let the Lord use YOU to speak into a life and brin

Big Questions

1 Peter 1:3-6 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while .  You and I will answer many questions each day. Big questions. Things like "what am I going to wear?" or "should I have pasta or chicken for dinner?" I know, those are not really very big at all! But some of them can get BIG. A couple of my personal ones are "am I raising my daughter the best that I can" and "am I taking advantage of all o

Let's Go!

Hebrews 10:24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. I love the gentle reminders that are given to us in scripture. Right after being challenged to hold on tight to what we believe and to trust God, we find this little nugget... think of ways to motivate others to do good. Honestly, the first thing I think about each day is not other people. (my first thing is where's my cup of joe!) I need to remind myself all the time to consider others first, to honor them and to help them. Our nature is to look out for number one. I need to continue reprogramming myself. I needed this reminder today. Maybe you do too! Start today differently. Let's think of ways to motivate others to do good and love each other! Ready...get set...GO!

Move It!

Henry David Thoreau said " if one advances confidently in the direction of their dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours ." Did Thoreau discover a formula for success? Moving confidently in the direction that YOU desire is how things happen. There are far too many dreams that have fallen asleep and been abandoned because of a lack of confidence and because the dreamers never moved one step in forward. Confidence is built by living the life that you imagined. Where do you see yourself? What do you see yourself doing? Get that image in your head and begin to walk in that direction. Sure it may just be little steps right now. One foot after the other. But what Mr. Thoreau so eloquently stated is a very spiritual principle. The atmosphere you permit determines the product you create. You get out of life what you put in to it. Living the life that you have "imagined in your mind " will put

A Benefit Package

Today read Isaiah 58 and see some of the benefits we have that enable us to live fully devoted lives for Christ. If we stop trying to carry the burdens of others and our own and surrender them to the Lord...if we stop pointing fingers of blame at others...if we quit backbiting and gossiping; then we set ourselves up for some great things. Let's look at a few... “our light shall dawn in the darkness , your darkness shall be as noonday ” It’s a promise that the divine gifts that have been planted in us will be utilized. Harvest time will come. Hold on to faith…hold out hope. We will be a blessing. People will respect us because we shine when the world tries to cast a shadow over us. There will be nothing “dark” or “overcast” in our lives. Even the “nights” of our life will be like noontime. Illumination!! “ the Lord will guide us…continually .” We have a divine gps that tells us what route to take. Even the men, who may seem to get lost and not ask for directions: co

Not Ashamed

2 Timothy 1:8 So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. I think most believers struggle with the very thing that should come naturally to them...sharing Jesus with a stranger. Personally I do not think it's that we are ashamed as this scripture speaks of. I believe that it has to do with fear...fear of not being able to answer their questions...fear of being rejected...fear of chasing them away from church and Jesus forever. The easiest way to share Jesus is to live your life for Him in front of them. Letting your words, thoughts and actions be a fabulous representation of Christ. I think we'd be surprised at how receptive this world is to genuine love and godly peace. You hold the key that will unlock a life full of divine blessing and favor. Today, take courage and look for an opportunity to tell someone about the person that changed your life forever. Share Jesus!

It does not take me long to realize that more often than not a particular scripture just needs no commentary or personal thought added to it. Psalm 100 is one of those. Just reading it changes the way I feel, the attitude of my heart and the intensity of my praise. Shout, worship, sing...He is GOOD! As you get ready to enjoy your weekend, let these words encourage you too! Psalm 100:1-5 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness.Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God!He made us, and we are his.We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving;go into his courts with praise.Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation. Have an amazing weekend and get to church!

Power Surge

Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard about the miracle, they said, “No wonder he can cast out demons. He gets his power from Satan, the prince of demons.” Everyone is intrigued by "power". We've got power bars, powerade, and we take power walks and power naps...power is something everyone wants more of. The Bible talks about divine power given to those who believe in Jesus and know him as Lord. That is what I want to see operate in my life... the power to help the sick get well and the lame walk again! Imagine praying for someone who cannot see and watching them see for the first time! Possible? Absolutely! It's hard to imagine seeing a miracle, something good, and thinking it had anything to do with evil. Satan has limited power and it's no match for the power of Christ. The power of Christ can move mountains, calm storms and bring peace to every chaotic situation. So could you use some "divine" power today? Ask Jesus to show up strong for

Chin Up!

"I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it .” This Mae West quote says it all when it comes to facing the giants in life. Nothing worthwhile ever happens without some adversity and some challenges. In fact, without the adversity and the struggle, we would have no need to exercise faith our rely on the strength of the Lord. If you never had to be strong, you'd never know how strong you could be! Ephesians 6 tells us to "be strong in The Lord and in the power of His might". There are things that you and I will face that can only be defeated with Gods power. Our power is simply not enough. So if you are facing something tough or life just seemed to get away from you, trust in the Lord . Be strong. Be strong in His power! When you are your weakest He becomes the strongest! You will make it! This too shall pass! Everything's going to be OK! Chin up, buttercup!

Stepping Up

Joshua 1:9 Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go .” I admire Joshua and the steps that he took to continue when his leader and mentor, Moses, finished his life's race. Joshua "stepped up" as we say and he stepped into the role that God had designed for him. He got to finish the final leg of the race and take Gods people into the land and life that was promised them. When I started working in ministry I used to wish that God would speak to me as he did with Joshua and give me specific instructions for my next project. Encourage me by saying that every step I take would prosper and that he would be with me no matter what, just like he was with Moses. That he would tell me no enemy could stand against the power he had placed in me. Then one day, as I was reading and praying I understood...He is with me...He has promised to bless my steps and He would rise up in me greater than any enemy! H

Matt 13:19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. We have to strive for understanding so that the enemy cannot snatch it. You are a seed. Your words are seeds. Your thoughts, seeds. And YOU are responsible for learning how to plant yourself and your gifts and resources into what God is doing. God has planted His Word into your life. He wants all of us to strive for understanding so that the things he has planted in us cannot be snatched away. Unfortunately many times when we do not understand something, we simply leave that thought and go on to something that we do understand. God wants us to know His plan for OUR lives. The fourth verse talks about the birds snatching the seed. Birds aren’t the only things that snatch seed. The wrong people in your life can eat the seed. Being in the wrong places too. Careers have eaten many seeds. Negative

Growing Up is Hard to Do

This week I got to learn a great deal about myself, what I can handle and what truly impacts me emotionally and spiritually. I have three children, two boys and a girl and they are all amazingly creative and talented. My youngest son, Justin, moved out some time ago and has a family in Colorado and my other two, Brandon and Jordan have stayed close. Jordan is a junior in high school and Brandon is 24, chasing his dream and pursuing God's plan for his life. This week, Brandon took the pursuit to LA and moved out to California. The packing began Sunday and continued through Tuesday which is when he left. I always knew that I loved these kids, and one of them has already moved out so this should have been easy. But because Brandon was around so much and for so many years, when he left it really impacted me. I was not prepared for what I would feel when my oldest son left the nest. I was overwhelmed with joy for a young man that would pursue his dream but I was so sad as the car d

Just the FACTS

Facts...indisputable truths...I love to know the facts. There are so many opinions and ideas out there that make the facts so refreshing when you get them. I especially like to know things that are true that make me laugh. I like happy facts. Let me share a couple: If you fake laugh long enough, you'll actually start to laugh really hard. Rats laugh when tickled (wonder who figured that out?) The Beatles used "love" 613 times in their songs. Butterflies use their feet to taste (favorite food- toe-fu:) When you were born, you were, for however brief an amount of time, the youngest person on the planet. And now a little more seriously, here's how you can use the FACTS to be happy. Just follow the FACTS:) F orget the past A ccept your mistakes C ry and move on T hank God S mile always Hope you were able to smile just a bit today!

What Have You Done for Me Lately?

Psalm 91:2, 9-10 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you,Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; Sometimes the lines are blurred when it comes to distinguishing the believers from the non-believers. As I was reading Psalm 91 today I was reminded that there is a difference in saying He's my Lord and making Him Lord. People will tell that you are a true follower of Christ more by the things you do than the words you say. Don't just talk about Him, live for Him! Today, the Lord may be asking you, "what have you done for me lately"? Live your life worthy of the One that called you. Don't just say He's Lord, make Him your Lord:)

Take Jesus Out

Yesterday I started a new series that I am so excited about for The Landing called Seeds of Change. Our mission is to be more mindful of telling others about Christ and winning souls. Let me share an excerpt of that message today... MATT 13:1That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. 2Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. There is an interesting thing happening here. First off, notice that Jesus got out of the house . There is a great deal of impact we have in our churches but the real change happens when we take Jesus out of this house. The next thing he did was to get himself in front of the people . There were so many people surrounding him in the story that he was unable to speak TO the people. Sight lines were hindered. It seems to be important to Jesus that He be able to SEE the people: to make a real connection. When you and I want to make a serious connection, to make

Believe, Adhere and Rely

Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also who have heard the Word of Truth, the glad tidings Gospel of your salvation, and have believed in and adhered to and relied on Him, were stamped with the seal of the long-promised Holy Spirit . That Spirit is the guarantee of our inheritance the firstfruits, the pledge and foretaste, the down payment on our heritage, in anticipation of its full redemption and our acquiring complete possession of it—to the praise of His glory. The first chapter of Ephesians is one of my favorite books in the Bible. I read it anytime that I start to feel invisible in my life or discouraged. When I feel like I do not matter or my significance account is low, this book always and in all ways cheers me up. One of the tasty nuggets of truth that you just can't miss comes in verses 13 and 14. If you read this blog then I know that you are one of those that has definitely heard the good news of the Gospel. You know the story of Gods grace and how the gift of salvati

Is Your Faith a Secret?

2 Timothy 2:1-2 So you, my son, be strong (strengthened inwardly) in the grace (spiritual blessing) that is to be found only in Christ Jesus. And the instructions which you have heard from me along with many witnesses, transmit and entrust as a deposit to reliable and faithful men who will be competent and qualified to teach others also . (Amplified Version) Too many of us keep our faith a secret. Nobody knows what we really believe because when it comes to sharing our faith, we become silent. Being saved for eternity with Christ is something to talk about! Following Jesus is the only way to go! When we were given the Great Commission to go into all the world and make disciples, it is clear to see the value in mentoring others and reproducing reliable and more faith-filled people. We are to make good deposits into others, to pass it on so that others will be able to experience this inward strength and all the spiritual blessings that come to every believer. If we care about His Wo

Do You Feel Inferior?

“ No one can make you feel inferior without your consent ” Eleanor Roosevelt Think about that great quote for just a moment. Did you realize that those things which are causing you so much grief and pain had to have permission to bring you down? That’s right! You have to agree to give the power that you have away to those things. How do you give them permission you may ask? I believe that we make agreements and attach ourselves to things through what we listen to, what we see with our eyes, what we say with our mouths and what we do. Choosing to go to a movie with foul language and immoral behavior and situations is a way you allow those things to gain power over you. Letting your mouth say derogatory or negative things rather than edifying things can bring you down. No one in their right mind would do something to hurt themselves, would they? What you are consenting to today? What agreements are you making without really thinking about the attachment? Are you giving away

He Gives Me NEW Strength

The  Lord  is my shepherd;  I have everything I need. 2  He lets me rest in fields of green grass  and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water. 3  He gives me new strength . He guides me in the right paths,  as he has promised. This morning my ministry capabilities will be challenged. I will need some of this NEW strength that comes from the Lord. The longer that I serve Him the more I realize just how little I really know and how much of this journey of a Christ follower is truly "by faith". My role as a pastor this morning requires that I bring some comfort and peace to a family that will be burying their baby boy.  As I prayed about the service and read through many scriptures, I was saddened by just how insignificant and short our words can be to a family enduring such grief. There are so many unknowns...why is this child no longer living here Lord? Why do these parents have to endure such pain? What could possibly be said that makes everything alright? The fact
