Could You Use Some Favor?

Image
"For you Oh Lord will bless the righteous; with favor you will surround him as with a shield." Psalm 5:12
Imagine that today each and every one of your steps was invincible. Every conversation you had tilted in your favor. Every business deal that you negotiated ended up more favor-able for you. Sounds like a great day, even if it is just Thursday!
There are certain fundamental truths in scripture that apply to our lives whether we acknowledge it or not. One such truth is that living with and for God provides protection. You are surrounded with favor...like a shield. Favor is that thing which occurs causing everything to somehow go your way and turn out for your benefit. Even the bad stuff can be redirected. Romans 8:28 tells us that ALL things work together for good. But there is a condition. You must love God. Loving God puts you in an arena where you are able to receive favor thus making you favor-able. Why don't you smile this morning and face the world head on with…

The Spirit of the Lord

Image
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me... Because of where we have been , what we have come through and now knowing who we are, you and I have to really understand this. The only way for us to live a spirit led, spirit guided and spirit filled life is to understand this and believe it in our heart. There are things we have been called to do that are totally impossible if the Spirit of the Lord is not upon us. It’s the Spirit of the Lord that makes the difference.  In fact, if you read Luke 4 you will see that Jesus made this very same proclamation before he began to do the marvelous things that His father had intended for Him to carry out on this planet. Say it today..."the Spirit of the Lord is upon me!" It’s how you can walk into the office and give 120% or work all day at home and manage 3 children and still be smiling when your husband comes home…it’s the Spirit of the Lord that is alive in you compelling you to talk to Him and be in His presence though you may want to run aw…

What's the Key to Finding What You Want?

Image
There was a blind man that heard Jesus was coming to town. Jesus had a reputation for making things work that didn't work. He was known for bringing into existence things that had never existed before.  This man could not see but he could speak, in fact he could yell. And that's just what he did! Jesus, have mercy on me! His voice was heard and could not be ignored. Jesus stopped and had him brought closer. When the blind man was standing before him, Jesus didn't touch him, he didn't pray and he did not anoint him with oil. He simply asked him a question. What do you want me to do for you? Doesn't that seem a bit odd? Jesus knows the condition of the man. Jesus knows that he cannot see. Why the question? It was a pivotal moment in his life. What if he would have said "I want to win the lottery and I need some winning numbers?" Or "I'd like to have more money than I could ever spend." Bartimaeus could have focused on things but he didn't…

More than Conquerors

Image
COL 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He created life...He created you! Since He created it, He controls it. And when Jesus went to the cross with our sin, our weakness, He shed blood that would wash away our guilty stains and make us right with him again. If you are having trouble keeping it together, you may need to rekindle your relationship with Christ. He is the only one who can he hold things together.
Making Him Lord of your life insures that you can never ever be possessed(consumed) by evil. You will be oppressed by some of the devils tactics like deception, temptation, and accusation, but you will be more than a conqueror in all of these things.(Romans 8) Now that's good news to start your week!

Call in a Victory

Image
For about a month our church has been looking at some of the strategies that seem to be used against us to stop us from moving forward. Even in moments when we are in sync with God’s will, difficulties can arise. As we get stronger and develop our God given instincts and abilities, more ideas and opportunities come our way and we are required to become more responsible. To whom much is given, much will be required and if we do not deliver…well what happens then? Things disappear.
The enemy has a strategy. It starts with division. DI-vision… its separation from the vision. If he can get you away from the pack…if you can be isolated and alone, you are an easy person to pick apart. Once division occurs, its not long before the feeling of defeat shows up. Panic and fear overwhelm us and we start to believe that we are out of chances. The next phase of this attack is discouragement. It means you dis-courage…there is no courage left. No strength to fight, no will to go on. And when divisio…

Hold Nothing Back

Image
Psalm 40:9 I’ve preached you to the whole congregation,I’ve kept back nothing, God—you know that.I didn’t keep the news of your ways a secret, didn’t keep it to myself.I told it all, how dependable you are, how thorough. I didn’t hold back pieces of love and truth for myself alone. I told it all,let the congregation know the whole story. I've been praying this week for you...the cup of joe reader and for those I have the honor of ministering to every week! My hearts desire is to be so in tune with what The Lord wants that when I share, your life gets better, your day gets brighter and your faith grows larger. May Gods love and truth overwhelm you today. I pray you understand and comprehend the whole story He is trying to tell with your life. It's time to let out all the stops...hold nothing back!

Landing Worship Vol. 1

Image
I've been a musician most of my life. As a small child I played an imaginary guitar to Beatles songs while standing on the kitchen table. So says my mother! The love of music led me many places and afforded me to see some amazing things. The latest adventure we will reveal tonight at our church. The Landing is releasing it's very first Worship CD and I could not be more thrilled and proud of this amazing team. Worship is one of the core values of our church. We believe that when we worship God we place all of our attention and focus on Him. We are consumed by the presence of the Lord and it's in these intimate moments that clarity comes along with help, hope and healing. Worship music always seems to calm my spirit and bring me back to the place in my life and heart where I am sensitive to all that the Lord desires me to do. It "lifts" my spirit and my countenance! Please pray for all of us tonight as we celebrate this milestone with a Worship CD release party. …

Hello Anxiety!

Image
Phil 4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Do NOT be anxious? Are you serious? Our company is going through a phase of cutbacks! Our car needs work that our budget cannot support! My kids are sick! My to do list is far longer than my office hours! All of these would seem valid reasons to let anxiousness into our lives. Still we are told to not be anxious about ANYTHING! Anything includes all of the reasons that you could come up with to stress out today. We get the word anxiety from this word. Anxiety leads to worry and stress and a variety of other toxic emotions. So how can we defeat this anxiety and do what we should?
Take your requests to God! In everything, keep the Lord in your daily dialogue. It seems simple but as you develop our relationship with the Lord, He brings many good …

Livin the Dream!

Image
This is a special Saturday Morning cup! Everyday I have someone that asks me how I am doing and my answer is always the same..."I'm livin' the dream!" Some days I am not feeling it but I say it anyway. This day used to be my wedding anniversary day for 20 years. That all ended in 2005 and ever since then this week and especially this day has been everything but joyful. What the Lord has been talking to me about is this: if you want to SEE change, you need to SEED change. In other words, if you don't like how you feel during this time of year, change what you do. So for me personally, I'm turning a hurtful memory into a hope-filled day of ministry! Tonight I have an amazing opportunity to share the love of God in a city that inspired me to start all that I am doing today at The Landing. It was a dozen years ago and since then thousands of people have been touched by Christ through the incredible people and talents the Lord has surrounded me with. We call this…

The Happy Meal

All our life we've been hungry, hungry for something more. Then one day we all realize that it's Jesus who we've been in search of. Let's make it personal, YOU realize that He has always loved you and wants to make a connection with you. Think of it like this:
What's the first thing they say when you go into a restaurant? "Would you like a menu?" You finally see the menu for what Jesus has been trying to tell you...Jesus says it's all about ME-N-U! Me and You Jesus, I get it! I've been starving for this! Now you don't go into a restaurant and "think" your order, you need to say it. Nothing happens until you tell them what you want. You're hungry, they know it because you are here, but you place the order. You know what you want...you want the number 1...you want to be saved! So you say it...I want Jesus to be My Lord and Savior! If you are like me, you want everything that comes with that...I want the Holy Spirit, and give me some …

The Comfort Zone

Image
Mark 8:22-26 When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and they begged him to touch the man and heal him. Jesus took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then, spitting on the man’s eyes, he laid his hands on him and asked, “Can you see anything now?” The man looked around. “Yes,” he said, “I see people, but I can’t see them very clearly. They look like trees walking around.” Then Jesus placed his hands on the man’s eyes again, and his eyes were opened. His sight was completely restored, and he could see everything clearly. Jesus sent him away, saying, “Don’t go back into the village on your way home.” Jesus was the expert at "teachable" moments. That is what I believe this was. There is a blind man that people want to see healed. So they brought him to Jesus. What happens next is easy to miss. Jesus took him out of the village. Sometimes you need to get out of your comfort zone to experience real comfort. Once Jesus had …

Could You Use a Double Dip?

Image
I Peter 5:7, TLB. "Let Him have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you."
Look around you today at the faces of people. What you may see are frowns and black circles under the eyes. Unhappy stares and faces showing the signs of an incredible amount of wear and tear. Anxiety and stress are taking a toll on many people today. We worry about whether our children will be safe. We worry about whether we are going to lose our job or even our house. And we worry about whether or not people are going to like us and what we do. Each of these things has been covered by the Lord already! I remember one day I was walking through the neighborhood and heard an old familiar sound...the song of the little white ice cream truck. As it drove passed me I felt happy, peaceful and excited as I watched the little kids run to the next block to meet him. They were about to forget all of their troubles with a simple double dip of swe…

Count Yourselves Blessed!

Image
Just in case yesterday's reminders were not enough, let me share some more encouragement from Matthew 5 today!Matthew 5:7-11 “You’re blessed when you care. At the moment of being ‘care-full,’ you find yourselves cared for. “You’re blessed when you get your inside world—your mind and heart—put right. Then you can see God in the outside world. “You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family. “You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom. “Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good c…

You're Blessed!

Image
Matthew 5:1, 3-6 When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. What Jesus taught them I share with you today. Simple, encouraging and an awesome reminder: you're blessed! This is what he said: “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you. “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought. "You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat. Enjoy this today and prepare for more reminders tomorrow:)

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Image
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,  Because His compassions fail not.

They are new every morning;  Great is Your faithfulness. Lam 3:22-23
I don't deserve the goodness of God. I seem to make so many mistakes. In fact there are days when I get up and want to do only good things but end up making some poor choices instead. I fall short in so many ways. The Bible says that this is true of all of us so I know that I am not alone. I have others that are part of his family that are trying to live a life that honors God and navigate the trials and challenges too. But the news gets even better! I may make a mistake today but tomorrows mercy is not the same as today's.  He has compassion on me each and every day and he knows my weaknesses. In fact, when I am my weakest, he becomes strength for me! Have you made some big mistakes? Don't dwell on what's done, look forward to what's coming! New mercies...God's compassion...GREAT is His faithfulness!

Hold on to Him!

Image
Deuteronomy 13:1 When a prophet or visionary gets up in your community and gives out a miracle-sign or wonder, and the miracle-sign or wonder that he gave out happens and he says, “Let’s follow other gods” these are gods you know nothing about, “let’s worship them,” don’t pay any attention to what that prophet or visionary says. God, your God, is testing you to find out if you totally love him with everything you have in you. You are to follow only God, your God, hold him in deep reverence, keep his commandments, listen obediently to what he says, serve him—hold on to him for dear life! There are many voices shouting out instructions, counsel and opinion in this world. It's often difficult to discern who is saying what. The only voice that you should heed to is the still small voice of Gods spirit that speaks in you. Your instincts are wise when you have Jesus living in you. Hold him in deep reverence and keep his commands. Listen and serve. Hold on to him for dear life!Trust in …

I'm Happy!

Image
Happiness...ahh, everyone is in search of it. It was Abe Lincoln that said, "most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Fact is, true happiness depends on you. I want to give you three quick ways to get back on the happy train and start living in the joy that God intended you to have.

First, Act like what you desire to see happen is happening. When you were a child you probably used to play make-believe when you were alone or when you wanted to put yourself in another place. You became the person that you wanted to be. Some of you may actually be doing the things you acted out as a child. Before I became the founding pastor of The Landing, I prepared teachings and studied out ideas that I thought could help people. I committed to use my skill set for any size group of folks that God placed in my path. I acted as if I was already the preacher of a church that had not yet been founded! Another form of this comes in visualizing the end result that you e…

Getting Some COURAGE out of DisCOURAGEment Part 2

Image
Pulling COURAGE out of disCOURAGEment…let’s counter the four causes with four remedies that can help us be strong and courageous.
Rest: combat fatigue with rest…something that calms you. The most spiritual thing you can do when you’re tired is rest. Jesus said, come to me if you are weary and I will give you rest. Rest is not always an end to activity but often an exchange of activities. Exchange the things that weary you with some things that will refresh you.
Reorganize: combat the frustration of being overwhelmed by putting things in order…first things first…one thing at a time. Discouragement doesn’t necessarily mean you are doing the wrong thing…maybe you are doing the right thing the wrong way. Try another approach…shake things up a bit. Start little, one space at a time, one pile on the desk…but keep going!
Remember: you take the punch out of fear by remembering God and how he has shown up for others in the past and you too. When you remember him, he covers you with His love…perf…

Getting Some COURAGE out of DisCOURAGEment

Image
The disease of discouragement show up in many ways in our lives. Sometimes it manifest as depression. How can we pull courage out of discouragement? Today, let's suggest some ways discouragement gets access to our lives.

Fatigue: when you are tired and drained emotionally, you are a sure target for the infection known as discouragement. During fatigue your immune system is weakened, your defenses are low and things always look a lot worse than they are. You see this when you get half way through a major project and lose steam. When you feel fatigue, you’ll lose the intrigue.
Frustration: there is no worse thing than seeing tasks pile up and having that overwhelmed feeling. It’s natural to feel this way. When trivial things show up and interrupt you and prevent you from accomplishing what you really need to do, your frustration can easily produce discouragement. When there’s frustration, there’s no elation.
Fear: think about this one…fear of criticism(what will they think?) fear of r…

Harvest Hands

Image
Matthew 10:5 Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:“Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously. Jesus knew all about productivity and how to see abundance in every area of life. It comes through people: through everyday relationships with people. I love that this scripture called the twelve "harvest hands". They were named this because they were harvesters. They also have harvest hands because seed sowers will always reap!Where do you start? You go to the lost and confused right there in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Now is the time!If Jesus lives in you then not only do you understand how to plant seed, you a…

Count Yourselves Blessed!

Image
Matthew 5:11 “Not only that—count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens—give a cheer, even!—for though they don’t like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble. I would imagine that all of us have been on both sides of this conversation. We've allowed ourselves to get emotional and then while our mind is out of whack our mouth opened up and nothing good occurred. Or you have been doing some great things for the Kingdom of God and people started to say things about you which left you hurt and confused. We can be so heartless at times. We can say things without thinking and make judgements about each other without ever really knowing the truth. I am surprised at times just how mean we can be to…

What Can I Do?

Image
"Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”- Romans 12:12
What a great little cup to start today! Quite a reminder in this verse and some great encouragement for daily living. Living life will always include the desire for hope, the arrival of affliction and the need for prayer. How do we make the necessary adjustments to the daily changes that are hurled at us? What can you do? Be joyful, patient and faithful.
The JOY of the Lord will be the strength that we need to overcome challenges. When the challenges last for a while we will need to let PATIENCE have her perfect work. And FAITHFULness shows up when we believe in what we pray for and take constant steps in His direction acting as if the answer has already arrived.
You may be waiting today for some news: a job application, a doctors diagnosis, a call from someone you love. Be joyful in hope. Waiting always seems to be hard to handle but if you stay positive and expect the best you give God something to w…

Love Appropriately

Image
Philippians 1:9-11 So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God. I "love" the way the Message Bible translates this scripture. There is a difference in loving much and loving well. We need to learn how to love appropriately. To love the way Jesus intended. In order to be sincere and intelligent so that we are genuine in every way we need to use our head and test our feelings. God gave us instincts, an inner witness, that will keep us on track when we pay attention to it. Love is the fruit that springs from the soul of a person that has a real relationship with Jesus. When …
