Gratitude in Your Hearts

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. After a day of feasting and for some of you, shopping, this scripture is a great reminder about the importance of gratitude. Today as we move into another weekend, this is my prayer for you. His Word must find its way into our dwell in us. Take a few moments to let your heart sing this weekend and smile while you look up to heaven and thank the Lord for another day of LIFE! Take a walk and burn off some of those Thanksgiving day calories:)  And don't forget that last part...whatever you do...WHATEVER you do, do it all in the name of Jesus. When you work for the Lord nothing that you do is in vain. I've got a feeling that this is

Happy Thanksgiving

Knock Knock. Who's there? Gladys. Gladys who? Gladys Thanksgiving! Aren't you? Today we celebrate all of the people and the things in our lives that we are grateful for and ask God to continue living in us and through us everyday. We thank Him for adopting us into His family and filling us with power to live life fully and make a positive difference along the way. I also thank each of you for encouraging me as I try to pour out a rich blend of inspiration for your daily grind. May God bless you and your family as you give thanks for all He has done and is doing. Happy Thanksgiving! Knock Knock. Who's there? Dewey. Dewey who? Dewey have to wait long to eat?

Overflowing with Thankfulness

Colossians 2:6-7 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. What does it really feel like to live our lives IN Him? And is it even possible in this day and age to overflow with thankfulness? Today I was thinking about all of those single parents and people that are part of what we refer to as blended families. I can't speak for others but the fact that I am part of a blended family truly makes the holidays more challenging. There are so many feelings and emotions that getting together conjure up that it's often just easier to go through the season alone. And I'm sure that my children have their own opinions too. I need to arrive at that thankful place each and every day. Today I am saying a special prayer for all of the single parent families and widows; the shut-ins and those without anyone. And I'm thanking the

Top of the Fence Post

Alex Haley, the author of ROOTS, has a picture in his office, showing a turtle sitting atop a fence. The picture is there to remind him of a lesson he learned long ago: “If you see a turtle on a fence post, you know he had some help.” We are who we are and where we are because of the people that have been placed in our lives. Often we may think for a time that we rise to the top of the fence post by our works, our time invested and using all of the resources at our disposal but the fact is that we are where we are because of the help we have received. I am thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to take my thoughts and put them into words each day that can encourage people to dream BIG and go higher. In 2007 when I started this daily blog I had no idea that anyone would read it. It’s even become one of the best-selling books that I have had the privilege to write! Cup of Joe exists because the Lord put it inside my heart and it continues because YOU share it every day with me and

Pass the Salt

COL 4:  2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful . 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. This would be a great week for a divine turnaround. The world is poised and ready for a celebration of thankfulness. You can't be thankful without being prayerful. Prayer moves you in the direction the Lord intended for you and thankfulness keeps you going. Doors will open and people will show up to help you. We must also remember that the way we treat others defines the way we are treated. Our conversation must be soaked in grace and seasoned with salt.  So why not start praying with more intensity this week. Be

When it's Time to Go...

The other day I was in a discussion with someone who was trying to determine how to move into the next season of their career. It was time for them to make a transition and they were like most folks...the hardest part of this type of change is the leaving. Today I want to give you a short excerpt from my story when I left the Christian music biz to transition into becoming a pastor and founding a non-profit ministry. " When God tells you that its time to change jobs and you stay longer than you were supposed to, things may get very difficult before you leave. The longer you stay where you are not supposed to be the harder it will be to leave. I often wonder why He seems to move us when things are somewhat comfortable and going quite well right where we are. I don’t like to move. But I never want to stay anywhere longer than I am supposed to. I realized that when I first became rest- less in my job in the Christian music industry. If I were honest with myself and with my h

Psalm 96:11-13 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them;let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for he comes,he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness. There is nothing as relaxing to me as the sound of waves rushing in on the shore. In fact that sound is what puts me to sleep every night. I have it on my phone and it makes me feel like I am at the beach. When you merge that sound and thought with jubilant fields and trees that sing with joy, the nature around us can be very exciting. All creation rejoices for its Creator. We ought to as well! Take a moment today to listen to the song that the trees are singing. Look for the glad things, the joyful things that are all around you. Listen for the waves and just let yourself enjoy all that God has created for you. Rejoice!

Wasting Away

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we do not lose heart . Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. Ever had a time when your mind and heart wanted to do something only to discover that your body was not an active participant in the endeavor? Me too! It really is difficult getting older! I understand this scripture and the wasting away part of my outward appearance. Now I long for more of that inward renewing part. As the Lord strengthens me I am better able to deal with the momentary troubles that are part of the strengthening process. I do not want to lose heart when I deal with changes in my body and in my life and circumstances. The best way to keep my heart in it is to keep my eyes on Jesus. Where are you looki

Relax, Take it Easy!

Life teaches us many things. I tend to want to hurry through each day, to rush the circumstances and situations. Some things must take their course: You don’t rush a baby; whenever possible, you let it have 9 months to develop. You can’t rush a seedling; pulling on it to make it grow faster will cause it to die. You can’t rush the tide; it must go all the way out before it will begin to come all the way back in. The tide always comes back. You may think tht it will never get any better, that situation could never change and you are doomed to be miserable the rest of your life. It's time to change your thinking. Be patient. Things will change...they ALWAYS do! I'm praying for the tide to change for you!

Live a Little!

Ephesians 5:1  Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Freedom is a good thing. It's even a God thing. Christ HAS set us free so that we can live a free life. To do so will require us to make adjustments. Why? Because freedom doesn't always mean liberty. Think about it. When the children of Israel were liberated out of Egypt, they were set free of the bondage of Pharaoh. But it wasn't long until they could be heard grumbling about the way it was  where they were! They had to learn to adjust to the new found liberty and take a stand IN freedom. As Moses began to lead them and God began to orchestrate a plan to bring them into Canaan, they had to deal with this new life and the "boundaries" that God was setting up for them so that they could live the free life. They began to look at this freedom as a new kind of bondage. They were seeing this as a harness of slavery rather than an ave

Where's the Joy?

" Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. ”- Romans 12:12 Quite a reminder in this verse and some great encouragement for daily living. I needed this today! Living life will always include the desire for hope, the arrival of affliction and the need for prayer. How do we make the necessary adjustments to the daily changes that are hurled at us? By being joyful, patient and faithful . The JOY of the Lord will be the strength that we need to overcome challenges. When the challenges last for a while we will need to let PATIENCE have her perfect work. And FAITHFULness shows up when we believe what we are praying and take constant steps in His direction acting as if the answer has already arrived. You may be waiting today for some news: a job application, a doctors diagnosis, a call from someone you love. Be joyful in hope. Waiting always seems to be hard to handle but if you stay positive and expect the best you give God something to work with. If news comes

Things are Looking Up!

Colossians 3:1-2 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Sometimes it's very difficult to keep the right attitude. When life changes dramatically and people or things surprise you, often it's hard to find that silver lining. I love these two verses from Colossians. I've been raised with Christ...I am being lifted up each day out of the junk. I need to focus on where I am going and not where I have been. I need to be thankful for all that is happening IN me and stop dwelling on what's happening TO me. Things will start looking up just as soon as you do. Your up look will certainly affect your outlook! Set your hearts on things above. Set your mind there too. You've been raised up...above the circumstances and not under them. Let today be the start of a more positive you! Things will start to look up. You should too!

Exclamations of Thanks!

Philippians 1:3 Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart. I am so pleased that you have continued on in this with us, believing and proclaiming God’s Message, from the day you heard it right up to the present. There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears. Exclamations of thanks ...that's what this season is all about. Thankfulness is one of the triggers for prayer that draws us close to God and ushers his provision and protection into our lives. What are you thankful for this year? Is there gladness in your heart? I am praying for you and thanking the Lord today for the flourishing finish you are going to have in all of the things He had created you to do. Get ready for a great week and a month filled with th

Veterans Day

Today we remember all of those brave soldiers that defend the freedom that we enjoy. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would need be possible if these men and women were not making huge sacrifices for each of us. Mom's and dad's that are away from families and children, men and women that have protected and served for decades. Today, and every day, we say thank you for your gift. You have given to us an opportunity for peace. You have helped make it possible for us to learn and grow. Life and happiness would mean nothing without liberty. Thank you to your loved ones, who let you go to fulfill this calling. Thank you to your spouses and children who waved goodbye but made sure to say "I'll see you soon!". Thank you to those that are praying for you all over the world as you make this sacrifice. Thank you to all of the soldiers that have gone before you, those who showed you the hurts with their blood...those who washed away the pain with their tears

Quiet and Simple

The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. 1 Timothy 2:1 MSG Read this verse again, slowly. Imagine that description of the life that the Lord desires for you and for me...quiet, simple and contemplative. Picture yourself with no anxiety or stress and a genuine concern for your neighbors and friends. Is any of this even possible? Of course it is! We were designed to enjoy our lives and to experience fulfillment in everything we do. We were made to interact with each other and to bring about God's purposes on the planet. So what do we need to do to get things moving forward in the right direction? Pray ! Praying every way that you know how to pray. Pray for everyone you know. Say a special prayer for all of those folks that are dra

Good Things Will Just Happen for You!

Serendipity: it means "the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for." Serendipity, it's one of my favorite movies featuring John Cusak. Some use terms like luck or fate. They say that sometimes things just happen. It was the Native Americans when needing water, tapped into a maple tree and made the first maple syrup as they boiled off the sap. Another moment of serendipity came when Mr. George Ballas was in his car at the car wash and noticed the strings of brushes cleaning his car. He looked at them on the rotating brushes and an idea "popped" into his head. I wonder if a nylon cord, spinning around at a very high speed, could trim the grass and trees around the house. That's right, the w eed-eater was born! God is the master of serendipity. In fact the bible says that he is able to give to us "exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think(imagine). Things don't just happen...God is orchestrating o

Confession of Hope

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful" Hebrews 10:23 Realize today that you have the greatest part in shaping the type of day you you will have. You can begin talking about things that you desire to see and people you want to interact with and start thinking about what that meeting may look like. I have no problem in the thinking part of this but when it comes to what I say, well, that can be another problem. I try to think positive all the time but often my mouth negates everything that I have thought. This verse talks about a ' confession of hope '. There are many situations that I am holding out hope for and when I learn the power that comes in talking about those things the world begins to shake. Imagine every word that you speak today becoming a brick that is placed on an incredible dream house called your life. You have the plans within you to build what you have always desired. The key is to not wa

Its the month that thanks and thankfulness are on our minds and hopefully integrated in our lives. Here's a little way to help us all say THANKS... T - trusting the Lord with ALL your heart:trusting and believing you can do anything with God H -Hoping in the promises that you know are true...God can be trusted to keep His promises A -Anticipating the moving of His Spirit and more revelation knowledge to stay the course N -Noticing the variety of ways and people He uses to speak into our hearts and lives K -Knowing that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God and rob us of His joy S -Surrendering our agenda for His plans and purposes which leads us right back to the trusting Thanks to ALL of you that share a cup with me each day! May your cup always be running over!

Did you know that you can absolutely make another persons day a little better and it won't cost you a dime? That you have the power to lift up the spirit of a friend or co-worker? That you can single-handedly change the atmosphere wherever you are standing? How can you do all this? Smile :) I remember most of the days I spent walking to class in college and passing folks that looked like they'd just bit into a lemon! Others seemed to be counting the cracks in the sidewalk because they never looked up. A smile has the power to brighten up everything and everyone around you. And a smile can change more for you than just your countenance. Someone once said your day will go in the direction of the corners of your mouth! Try it today. Everyplace you go, smile. Whatever is happening to you, smile. You will see the change in others and feel the change in you! :)

I'm Waiting!

Wait a minute! Just wait, it's almost time! Sorry you had to wait! We hear this word every day many times. Maybe right now in your life you are waiting for something...a check in the mail...a thank you from the boss...direction for a huge life decision...wait, wait, wait! Nobody likes the waiting. We want what we want right now. As I was reading this scripture one day, it made me laugh. Let me share it with you: " Therefore the Lord will wait that He may be gracious to you. And therefore He may be exalted that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for Him ." Isaiah 30:18 Look closely... it starts with the Lord waiting and ends with us waiting ! Sometimes I feel like we will never meet and the timing will never be right. But God always delivers and He's always on time. His grace is sufficient for any situation and circumstance and He always comes through. I remember writing down a short little poem after readi
