There is nothing so useless...

The other day while looking through some old papers I ran across this quote: " There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all "  Peter Drucker Instantly I began to think of my daily schedule. I thought about the people, the meetings, the conversations and the errands that would be a part of the day.  I felt like I was being very efficient and also a great steward of my time. But what if I was being super great at stuff I should not even be doing? Why did I meet those people? Is this meeting really important? Am I praying about what I will do today? A nugget of wisdom from Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord and our plans would be established. In other words, if I let God guide the "stuff" I won't ever feel like I am doing something that wasn't worthwhile. Consider today that not all good ideas are God ideas. God will direct the life and steps of anyone that calls upon Him. And when you are following His plans

Pour Yourself Out

Ephesians 4:1 I n light of all this, here’s what I want you to do. While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master, I want you to get out there and walk—better yet, run!—on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere. And mark that you do this with humility and discipline—not in fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences .  We all have a road that God has charted out for us. Part of the wonderful discovery of abundant life is finding that path and staying the course. Yet too often we grow lazy. We sit on our hands and do nothing to engage in Gods plan. And then when we decide to move, we wander aimlessly down a different way than the one that God chose for us. This leads us to the wrong folks, the wrong places and brings into our lives the wrong results. When we humbl

A Birthday Wish

For the last year I have been part of an amazing journey with one of my best friends Carol Mathews, who is getting ready to produce a movie about foster care. She is using a landmark birthday to launch a documentary to begin telling this incredible story. Please take a look at the video and celebrate her 50th birthday by being a part of this compassionate endeavor. And then pass this opportunity on to those in your social network. You never know who may be ready to take this step and change a life:) Any gift amount will be appreciated! Carols Birthday is tomorrow!!!

Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart. The right path is about to be shown to YOU!

3 Quick Ways to Happiness

Happiness...ahh, everyone is in search of it. It was Abe Lincoln that said, "most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Fact is, true happiness depends on you . I want to give you three quick ways to get back on the happy train and start living in the joy that God intended for you to have each and every day. 1-  Act like what you desire to see happen is happening . When you were a child you probably used to play make-believe when you were alone or when you wanted to put yourself in another place. You became the person that you wanted to be. Some of you may actually be doing the things you acted out as a child. Before I became the founding pastor of The Landing, I prepared teachings and studied out ideas that I thought could help people. I committed to use my skill set for any size group of folks that God placed in my path. I acted as if I was already the preacher of a church that had not yet been founded! Another form of this comes in visualizing

Happy Fathers Day!

Just taking a moment to say thank you to all of the dads that show us the way and teach us to pray! Have an enjoyable day as we celebrate YOU!

Don't try to figure it out

Ephesians 1:3  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ .  Think about that for a are blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing! There is nothing that you will need to live your godly life that is not already in your life in some capacity. So smile, lift up your head and thank the Lord!  Don't try to figure everything out. Life is a bit odd. Sometimes it doesn't make sense. Like why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? Or why isn't "phonetics" spelled like it sounds? If olive oil is made from olives, what is baby oil made from? Or if ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy? All kidding aside, I am blessed. YOU are blessed...not just with some good fortune and luck. YOU and I are blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ! Key word...EVERY! There is a great deal of blessing from God to be thankful for today!  Thank you

What Time is It?

There is a time for everything , a season for every activity under heaven. Timing and seasons are very important in God's Kingdom. Oftentimes it seems that we can be a bit impatient because the value we place on time is not matching up with the way God sees it. We think that if our situation doesn't change in a day or a week that we will die.  Dramatic isn't it? After that period of time ends and we are still very much alive we set a new timetable that is still out of sync. God's timing is always perfect. What I am trying to do is release my need to control the time and let things happen the way God desires. He sees things from a different angle than I do and I believe that He can get my life and my destination to connect in the best possible way for me. And in doing so, He gets all the glory! So what are you waiting for? Who are you waiting on? Are you still trying to control the timetable? That will only lead to frustration and disappointment so try giving that c

Shine On!

Mark 4:21-22  Jesus went on: "Does anyone bring a lamp home and put it under a washtub or beneath the bed? Don't you put it up on a table or on the mantel? We're not keeping  secrets , we're telling them; we're not hiding things, we're bringing them out into the open . Our lives were meant to be lived out among other people. We were made to connect with others and develop relationships. The best way to grow relationships with people is to grow your relationship to Christ. It's so easy to want to detach and live life for ourselves. To take care of ourselves first and then look outward. That simply does not work. Jesus described it himself later in this chapter when he said: “ Giving, not getting, is the way . Generosity begets generosity.  Stinginess impoverishes."  Giving IS the way. Give your life to Christ. Give your life to others. Give your life to what Christ is doing: time, talent and treasures. Bring it all out into the open. You wer

Having done all...stand

One of my favorite scriptures, actually favorite chapters is Ephesians 6 where it talks about the armor of God. I need armor because there are some crazy things that are thrown at me every day. Here's what it says... Ephesians 6:13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand . There is armor and then there is the FULL armor. The full armor covers everything. God's got us covered. When we have this on we are protected in such a way that we can stand in the midst of any battle and make it. I have been in the middle of many situations in my life that have felt like battles. I have fought and fought and just when it seems like I get out in front of the battle there is a new twist. I'm at the place now that our scripture talks about... having done all you can do...STAND . I have said, alright, enough is enough! It's that place where you are sick and tired

Honk if you love Jesus:)

Romans 15:1  We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up .  Imagine God putting all of us here at the same time, together, to help each other. We are all in different stages of the journey at different times. So when we are strong and healthy, we are to help carry the load for those that are still struggling. This is NOT about making us happy but rather to please God. By pleasing God we are able to help others, get them to a better place and build them up. The actual work that we do in making this happen is certain to bring us happiness too! It really is a great deal the way that the Lord set this up. When I think about helping each other out, I think of the Great Northern Geese. They fly in a V formation to make it easier for the pack to get along. They honk as they fly by which is their way of encouraging each other. When the bird at the head of the V is tired he f
