You Have a Gift!

1 Peter 4:10-11 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.  Read that first part again...slowly:  God has given YOU a gift ! So let's start today by realizing how special you are and saying thank you for this gift. You are gifted because God wants to use that special ability to bring hope, happiness and healing to others. It doesn't matter what you do, you just need to do it for Him. Take a couple minutes and think about the last part of this scripture. Speak as though He was speaking through you...because He is! Help others with all of that God-given strength that is being provided for you. Using y

You're Blessed!

In Matthew 5, when Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions.  What Jesus taught them I share with you today. Simple, encouraging and an awesome reminder:  you're blessed! This is what he said: “ You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. “ You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.  “ You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.  " You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever eat!  So don't worry about all that is happening around you today and let God become

Why Are You Treating Me Like This?

Luke 2:41-48 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you. ” I have always loved this episode of "A Day in the Life of the Boy Jesus". All of the powerful emo

God is About to Light You Up!

There will be a distinct and radiant look on those that are continuously seeking the Lord. That "glow" showing up on our faces is JOY! When things go differently than you expect and people say words that are not so kind, just know that as you look to the Lord for help He begins to brighten up your day. In fact your outlook brightens with your uplook ! Get ready, God is about to "light you up"!

No Shortfalls

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing . PS 34:10 Imagine today that you could live life in such a way that there would be no shortfalls. No shortfalls emotionally, physically, financially and spiritually. Sign me up! Sounds like a perfect way to move through the day! Trusting in the Lord sets us up for the best possible life that we could live. When He is in control then we can know that the people will meet, the conversations we have and the places we end up are being somewhat divinely guided or inspired. When we please the Lord, the Lord pleases us . So there is no lack because you have a new understanding that all things are eventually going to work out for your benefit. So what are you thinking about today? Are you staying positive and trusting God? Know this...He will make a way to satisfy all of your needs!

It's an Exciting Day!

In 2002 when I started The Landing, it was so important to me that the ministry we did was happening 24/7. I wanted people to have access to a message, a thought or a scripture anytime that they needed it. Experience told me that often when we are in trouble, the church is closed, the pastor is unavailable and our friends are no where to be found. I wanted to encourage people anytime, inspire them to dream BIG dreams and share the Bible with them in ways that helped them in their daily lives. That is why we call Cup of Joe a rich blend of inspiration for your daily grind. The way I achieved my goal of 24/7 ministry was to utilize a digital format media player that some friends of mine in Tulsa created at Every message I spoke at The Landing was there. And in a day when technology allows us to have information at our fingertips with cellphones, tablets and computers, wouldn't it be nice if Cup of Joe had one place to land that provided the content and the links to oth

Who Are You Placing Your Hope In?

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19 NIV I'm holding out a lot of "hope" these days. The Bible tells us that hope is an settles us into the thing or the person we are hoping in. That is why it is so important that we place our hope in something that works. Someone once gave me an acronym for hope that said it was H aving O nly P ositive E xpectations I like that! I want to stay positive even when things are not going my way. Seems that I always want them to happen on my terms or in my timetable. I've learned these days that the Lord knows quite a bit more than I do. He knows the things I should do and the people I should connect with. And He knows the best time for all of it to happen!! So who are you placing your hope in today? People may let you down. Things may get in the way. But when you trust in the Lord and hold out hope in Christ, you are setting yourself up for something truly special. So take a de

Trumpets and Voices

There's a story about Joshua and how Jericho was brought to the ground. If you read the story you see that it was all done with horns and shouts. For 12 laps they were not allowed to speak! On the 13th time around Jericho, everything changed! I don’t believe that I’ve ever heard of a demolition project that just required trumpets and voices to accomplish. Yet I can see the power that is available from God if we would worship and speak as He directs. I’ve seen praise and worship music soften hearts to the point of breaking before God. I’ve heard words formed into a testimony that caused strongholds in others to crumble as they were spoken. Trumpets and voices, worship and praise, will tear down walls of division and fortresses of evil.  Courageous living requires us to bring down strongholds Gods way. I personally believe that God told the people to be quiet because some of the folks in the group did not believe this could be done and they would have polluted the project with the

Are YOU Expecting Something Good?

ACTS 3: 1One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon. 2Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5So the man gave them his attention,  expecting to get something from them .
Peter and John were going to church to pray. Everyday there was a certain man right by the gate who begged for money. He had been crippled from birth and was placed in the same spot at the same time every day. On this particular day as Peter and John walked by, the man asked them for money. The bible says that Peter looked right at him and said, "look at us". They were attempting to get this man to FOCUS on something other than his condition. So the man gave them his attention.

Nobodies become Somebodies

"Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of "the brightest and the best" among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these "nobodies" to expose the hollow pretensions of the "somebodies"? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, "If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God."" 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 MSG Nobodies become somebodies when God is in the mix. God is great and greatly to be praised. He takes things that are foolish and uses them to confound the wise. He uses the most unsuspecting people to bring out His

I Need You...

I've been in search of a new adventure recently. When the Lord moves you out of one season before the next one is here, its a bit unsettling. I am having to learn about trust and faith in a much deeper and significant way. I have days when my faith is full and I'm excited...not sure why, just excited. And then there are days when it all just feels overwhelming. Part of my time in this transition has been defining what I am looking for and what really matters to me. I needed to write it down. Just like I do each day with the words of inspiration through Cup of Joe, I wanted to write out what's running through my head. As a Cup of Joe follower, you know me so well and have prayed for me sharing cups with me for years and now  I could use your help to get connected to that next place where I can serve.  I want to ask you to do 3 things: 1 -Read this entire cup 2- Pray for me personally as soon as you have finished asking the Lord to bring the place and myself together 3 -If y

1 Miracle

Acts 9:32   Meanwhile, Peter traveled from place to place, and he came down to visit the believers in the town of Lydda.  33  There he met a man named Aeneas, who had been paralyzed and bedridden for eight years.  34  Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you! Get up, and roll up your sleeping mat!” And he was healed instantly.  35  Then the whole population of Lydda and Sharon saw Aeneas walking around, and they turned to the Lord . It just takes one miracle . One act of God, one supernatural burst of power, one unexpected miracle. Peter went from city to city looking for people that needed Christ. Some needed to have their minds renewed, some needed financial help, some healing in their bodies. When he met Aeneas it was clear what his condition was. He hadn't been able to move for eight years. Peter spoke with authority and said " Jesus Christ  heals you! Get up, grab your sleeping bag and get moving!" Immediately the man was healed. One man, o

The Difference in Winning...

We have a choice each morning as we get up: to face the day with faith and trust in the Lord or to cower in fear and give up. By continuing to fight the good fight of faith we give the Lord something to work with. So no matter how hard things are right now, no matter how difficult things seem to be, just hang in there! The difference in winning and losing is most often not quitting .

Two is Better than One

Sometimes I am guilty of going off by myself to try and figure things out. Especially when I was younger I would alienate myself from other people in hopes that just being by myself could produce the answers that I was seeking. Often what happened was that I stayed confused about the situation and grew lonely in the process. We were not made to be lone rangers! In fact, things will always go better when you team up with others. When Jesus sent out the disciples to do the work of the ministry he sent them in two's. Why? Perhaps this verse in Ecclesiastes can explain... 4:9   Two people are better off than one , for they can help each other succeed. 10  If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. 11  Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? 12  A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer.  Three are ev
