Good Success!

The other day while looking through some old papers I ran across this quote: " There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all " Drucker Instantly I began to think of my daily schedule. I thought about the people, the meetings, the conversations and the errands that would be a part of the day.  I felt like I was being very efficient and also a great steward of my time. But what if I was being super great at stuff I should not even be doing? Why did I meet those people? Is this meeting really important? Am I praying about what I will do today? A nugget of wisdom from Proverbs tells us to trust in the Lord and our plans would be established. In other words, if I let God guide the "stuff", I won't ever feel like I am doing something that wasn't worthwhile. Consider today that not all good ideas are God ideas. God will direct the life and steps of anyone that calls upon Him. And when you are following His plans the best

Live Your Life

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted, built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7 I pray that YOU are a fully  devoted follower of Christ. If so, you must always strive to live as one. LIVE YOUR LIFE in Him. What does that mean? Look at the scripture closely and we can see some amazing benefits. You must be  rooted  in Him. The deeper the roots, the stronger the life. You deepen your roots through developing a personal relationship with Him. That relationship grows through prayer. You nourish the roots by reading His Word. Try taking a few moments at the start of each day to read the Bible. By becoming more deeply rooted in Him, two things will happen. You will be  built up  and  strengthened . He will lift you up when your down and help you out when you feel helpless. His power will become your power. His strength will be your strength. But the best part, in

Black and Blue Friday

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that  you may overflow with hope by the power  of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NIV) Well once again, the Black Friday sale started at dinner time Thursday! It's clear that some people are on a mission. They seem to be looking for a great bargain and a way to stretch their money for holiday gifts. In some places, it's a battlefield! My counsel...don't let Black Friday turn into  Black and Blue Friday :) At this moment, you may still be out looking for deals or you might have just returned home and be headed to bed for some rest. My prayer for you is the prayer that I pray for myself- to be filled with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit and to have an over abundance of joy and peace as I trust in the Lord. If we allow this to happen we can truly realize just what the popular Christmas song says, "it's the most wonderful time of the year". Have a wonderful holiday weekend! *Don

Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving

Don't Give Up...

Break Up the Ground

"Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and  break up the unplowed ground ; for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and showers righteousness on you."  Hosea 10:12 Sowing for ourselves? Reaping some powerful love for others as a result? Maybe you find it hard to get anything growing in your life. One mistake we often make is the pre-planting requirement. Our text says to "break up the unplowed ground". Imagine trying to plant something in ground that is cracked and hardened. The seeds would fall in the cracks or be snatched up by the birds or burned out by the blazing sun. Preparation always precedes success. In fact its when preparation meets opportunity that success arrives. Have you left a dream on the shelf? Are there things that have not manifested in your life that you have been praying for? Maybe the ground wasn't ready for planting the first time. Go back and break up the dry ground and get it ready to receive the see

My Manual 6-Speed Life

Over the last several months, I have experienced something that I see happening to many people these days. It’s feeling unsettled, out of sync and unable to find a rhythm in living our daily lives. Oh, there are days when things go exactly as planned and all of the conversations and meetings are smooth but those days are disconnected by a series of others that bring detours, distractions and chaos. Sometimes my life   feels like driving a manual 6-speed car without really knowing how. I remember trying to drive a Jeep for the first time. I did not know what a clutch was and had never used one. And there was a pattern to shifting gears, going from the lowest to the highest. Adding to that there was learning the art of using that clutch pedal along with the gas pedal. Since I had not done this before, the journey was not very pleasant. There were loud grinding noises as I was bounced around from side to side and lets just say, the need for some chiropractic care after I was throug

Aren't We All Fisherman?

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  They immediately left  their nets and followed Him . Matt 4:18-20 Have you ever thought about why the first two folks on the list of recruits for Team Jesus were fisherman? As he put together the people that would "do life" with him for his ministry on earth he went after fisherman. And when he came to them, they were doing what they!  Perhaps he went after Peter and his brother Andrew because they understood what it was like to cast out a net and wait. People may respond to the Gospel like fish at times, wiggling away or trying to swim through the net. Or maybe it was because their character was not to quit just because the nets didn't have any fish in them. Instead they would go out every day. Maybe it was because fisherman ar

Write a Goodbye Letter

Several years ago as I was l learning how to cope with some very difficult things and I decided to do something to symbolically set me free from the pain of the past and prepare me for the blessings of the future...I wrote a  goodbye letter . I wrote about this in a chapter of my book,  Transitions:Grace to Navigate the Storms of Change  Here's a piece of that story... " I sat down and I wrote a goodbye letter. I started to write down a list of all of the things that I wanted to say goodbye to. I wrote them out on a legal pad. I said goodbye to all of the things that had trapped me. All of the stuff that I thought I had to acquire. All of those attitudes that kept me in financial bondage. I said goodbye to a life of credit card debt and bills that could never be paid. I wrote down relationship things, emotional things and spiritual things. All this was in my goodbye letter and then I stuffed it away in a drawer. After the goodbyes had been said, it was time to sa

Appreciate Anything that Shines

Thank You to Our Veterans

Today we remember all of those brave soldiers that defend the freedom that we enjoy. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would not be possible if these men and women were not making huge sacrifices for each of us. Mom's and dad's that are away from families and children, men and women that have protected and served for decades at such great sacrifice. Today, and every day, we say thank you for your gift. You have given to us an opportunity for peace. You have helped make it possible for us to learn and grow. Life and happiness would mean nothing without liberty. Thank you to your loved ones, who let you go to fulfill this calling. Thank you to your spouses and children who waved goodbye but made sure to say "I'll see you soon!". Thank you to those that are praying for you all over the world as you make this sacrifice. Thank you to all of the soldiers that have gone before you, those who washed away the pain with their tears. Thank you to those who m

Faith and Deeds

James 2:14  What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?  15  Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16  If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. 18  But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19  You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. 20  You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21  Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22  You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23  And the scripture was fulfilled that says,

You Need a Good PDF

Some time ago, I had the pleasure of filming a little TV spot for a local cable program. The mission:  what would you say to someone that is going through a "transition "?: i.e. moving into a new city, a new home, a new relationship, out of one, to a job, from a get the picture. The time will have about 60 seconds!!! WOW! What a challenge! If all of my personal transitions lasted as long as this 60 second spot I would be incredibly happy! Unfortunately they do not. Most of my life transitions just seem to being born. For nine months you are being prepared and the moment you "come forth", the first thing they did was flip you upside down and spank your backside! Then they cleaned you off and placed you under some hot lights like a pack of fries at McDonalds! After everything settled, they put your fresh, spotless, dew rag covered head in a plastic cart on wheels and took you to the showroom for everyone to see. It was a somewha
