Losing Our Identity

2 Corinthians 10:12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. One of the hardest things to do when you are unhappy, bored or disouraged is to not compare your life with someone else's. Some have called it a comparison trap. Oftentimes when we are idle or restless in our own lives, we seem to notice what is going on and into the lives of others. When this happens we lose our own identity. It's not wise to compare yourself to another person or your life to their life.  Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. You are exactly the way you are supposed to be. Don't let the weakness in you affect the greatness in you. You have been given all that you need to be the success that God desires for you. Settle down and settle in to that best version of you that we all want to see. You are amazing!

Some Assembly Required?

We need an answer to how to put life back together after an unexpected package of surprises.
First of all, you can’t really put it back together, it will take God. You will only frustrate yourself like all the kings horses and all the kings men. Remember Humpty Dumpty? Here are a few suggestions.
1- read the instructions…why do we always want a shortcut? If you are like me, I often look at the picture on the box and simply try to imitate that. When pieces are left over and it looks slightly different than that picture, that’s when I go to the English translation of those directions. There are so many translations and none of them help except the one I understand. The bible is life's blueprint. Find one you can read! Then read it…don’t look for a crib note version to get by…forget about the seminars and how you can be rich in 30 days by buying homes for no money down! As painful as it may be for you, read the instructions. That’s a great place to start.
In 2 Timothy 2:15 it says…Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.
2- study to show yourself approved…in other words…be diligent. Diligent hands will rule…diligent hands can make those pieces line up right.
Diligence is a steady and consistent application…you are fashioning a lifestyle change that will make your life run so much smoother and make you so much more attractive to others.
3- “don’t be ashamed”…you do not need to put yourself down because you have some assembly required. If you will stop talking down to yourself others will too. Some of life’s most beautiful things are made up of millions of pieces.

Once we have these pieces in their place, we will start to have more fun with life. It’s then that we are able to do our own research and development with scripture…to compare…to find deeper meaning and more personal ways to understand what the instructions are telling us. Rightly dividing the word of truth…correctly handling God’s word.
Don’t try to imitate what the world is showing you. Find the right way to assemble your life and then be consistent. You may have a million tiny pieces that have been broken off by your circumstances and your choices. God can use every one of them. He knows where they fit and He can place them inside the borders of His protection and create a masterpiece. So don’t be ashamed the next time you see those huge letters that say, SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED. Just smile and know that when you’ve done all you can do, God will make sure that your life is the most incredible gift it can be to a world that needs it so desperately. YOU are a GIFT from God! Some Assembly Required!
