Belief Brings Relief

James 1:6   But when you ask, you must  believe and not doubt , because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7  Those who doubt should not think they will receive anything from the Lord... There are many times that I find myself praying and talking to God only to sometime shortly thereafter, act or talk as if what I was believing for was not really possible. Maybe you do it to. How many times do we allow our words to diminish our beliefs and redirect our actions? Are you your worst enemy? I think that many times my words of doubt can stand right in front of my delivery of blessing. The Bible is clear about this...BELIEVE and do not doubt for the person that doubts is double-minded and unstable. Doubt can cause us to waver and be unsettled in every area of our lives. The warning goes on to say that the person who has doubt in his heart should not even expect God to answer ! So in those prayers that you are praying this you R

A Gentle Purr

Anyone who has a happy cat knows that sound it will make: a gentle little purr. I have even heard people refer to a car engine that is running smoothly as making a "purr" sound. Makes me wonder how to make my days "purr" a little. Can you actually have that little purr and if so, how? Let me suggest that if you want to "purr" it takes  P eace,  U nity,  R epentance and  R estoration.  The Bible talks of believers of having a  p eace that goes beyond what they can comprehend. That peace comes only when the mind, body and soul is synchronized and there is  u nity. This kind of unity happens when we  r epent and turn towards the Lord deciding to do things His way and not ours. And when all of these things are in operation, well, there is complete  r estoration. If you want life to purr you need to strive for  p eace,  u nity,  r epentance and  r estoration. Oh and if you add to that  F anatical  E nthusiasm and  C hristlike  T alk well...that  purrf

Worried? Pray.

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and  praises shape your worries into prayers , letting God know your concern s. Phil 4:4 There's a great deal of "life" happening all around us. These days it’s very easy to worry about everything. How are we going to make ends meet? How can I keep my kids safe? Is my marriage strong enough to endure temptation? What if I lose my job?  All of these questions can lead to extended seasons of worry. Worry often develops into anxiety which breeds stress and can even make you physically sick. Paul taught us in Philippians to not be anxious about anything. Don't fret it and don't sweat it.  Don't hurry through it and don't worry through it . How do we do that?  We let our praises shape those worries into prayers to God! Imagine being able to take every unmanageable situation and place it in a perfect size box that could be managed, closed and put  away. Even thrown away if necessary!  Let

Commit it to the Lord

" Commit to the Lord WHATEVER you do, and your plans will succeed ." Proverbs 16:3 The other day I felt a desperate need for some instruction from the Lord to handle a problem I was facing. I wanted a specific word from Him so that I could simply follow it and succeed. I expected a three step approach with a couple of prayers in the middle. What I got was the scripture above. No specific guidance, just a promise that WHATEVER I commit to Him WILL SUCCEED! I thought about that and then decided to look deeper at the word COMMIT. Here are a few meanings of COMMIT: to give TRUST (to the Lord) to give in trust for preservation to bind or obligate, as by pledge or assurance to entrust for safekeeping to pledge to engage (make a connection with the Lord) So I felt like He was telling me that as I TRUST Him and hand over(ENTRUST) my troubles, as I pledge to engage Him, He promises to make WHATEVER I do successful. It's an actual WIN-WIN! I will not lose! I gu

Are You Even Listening?

How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted . Habakkuk 1:2-4 Do you ever complain? Have you ever spent part of your day whining about the way that your life was going? As I read the words of this scripture today I began to see a bit if myself in these words.  I have moments where I wonder why terrible things are happening and yes, I will sometimes even ask God if He is still there! I whine about aches and pains, lack of what I want and I also complain about the injustices in this world. I wonder why God won't just come and save me; save us! Is He even listening? Jesus never said

Inspire Yourself!

Inspire yourself!  What does it mean to be inspired? It means to be lifted to a higher level. I have a need to be lifted higher in some way each and every day! There are just so many things and people pulling me down that I crave a little lift all the time! I think we all need to find places of inspiration and ways to be inspired. When our spirits are up our energy and productivity increases too. Finding inspiration can be a challenge. Let me offer a few ways that I find a little lift that might be useful for you too. 1-turn on your favorite music and spend a few moments sitting and listening with your eyes closed. 2-write down something that you would like to see in you...maybe a characteristic or emotion.  Sometimes you have to see it to be it . 3-find some folks that do what you want to do and have coffee or lunch. Being in the presence of folks that are doing what you desire to do can energize you and ignite passion in you. 4-pray! You should probably do this fir

The Comparison Trap

2 Corinthians 10:12  We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise . One of the hardest things to do when you are unhappy, bored or disouraged is getting caught up in the comparison trap. What's that? Comparing your life with someone else's. Oftentimes when we are idle or restless in our own lives, we seem to notice what is going on in the lives of others. We seem to see all the good things and blessings that are coming their way. We see what they have against what we lack. When this happens we lose our own identity. We start to become concerned and even worried over things that should not even get any attention at all. It's not wise to compare yourself to another person or your life to their life.  Don't fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. You are exactly the way you are supposed to be. God made you one of a

Hope Changes Everything

Life isn't funny sometimes. Things don't go as we expect, people don't act like they should and our dreams can get squashed before they even start to take shape. But God is always there working in the midst of the happenings to build a better you. Look at this scripture: Romans 5:3-5 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love .  I are probably saying how can I rejoice in what's going on right now? You grin and bear it because you believe there is something better coming. Too often we sabotage His dreams for us with our negative words and thoughts. Trouble works ON you but eventually works IN you and builds character. Good char

We Will Never Forget

As we come upon another 9-11, my heart feels for the many people that have to revisit the images, stories and events that transpired on that horrific Tuesday morning. I would imagine that many of those who lost loved ones and family members don't go near a television set today as they continue to endure the emotions and feelings that life handed them on that morning. My prayer today is that the peace which God says will go beyond our own limited understanding, would surround them and invade their homes and families today. Our country became more united than ever that day as race, color, and background faded from view and patriotism began to shine.  After this terrible event we proudly proclaimed united we stand. What happened? Why have we lost that spirit of unity and love for one another? Perhaps on this day we could take a moment and put aside those things that divide us once again? Think about the families and friends that lost everything that day in this country we call t

Look at these definitions:   to change in composition or structure, to change the outward form or appearance of, to change in character or condition . This is what it means to be transformed .  Romans 12:2 says, “ Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God  transform  you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Each one of us is being changed every day. The things we see and hear are shaping our thoughts and our actions are following through on what we think about.  Our character can change as conditions change.  The challenge is to not allow bad things to shape you. We are not to copy the world’s behavior: we are to provide the world a great example of how to live. We do that by living as Christ did. Let God transform you into the person He designed you to be. His way is good and pleasing and perfect! It all starts with control. Let the Lord begin to direct y

Serendipity : it means "the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for." It's also one of my favorite movies featuring John Cusak. Some people use terms like luck or fate. They say that sometimes things just happen. It was the Native Americans when needing water, tapped into a maple tree and made the first maple syrup as they boiled off the sap. Another moment of serendipity came when Mr. George Ballas was in his car at the car wash and noticed the strings of brushes cleaning his car. He looked at them on the rotating brushes and an idea "popped" into his head. I wonder if a nylon cord, spinning around at a very high speed, could trim the grass and trees around the house. That's right, the w eed-eater  was born! God is the master of serendipity. In fact the bible says that he is able to give to us "exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think(imagine). Things don't just happen...God is orchestrat

Happy Labor Day

Be safe and have an amazing day! If you are working today, thank the Lord for your job, your boss and your paycheck!  "Work willingly at whatever you do,  as though you were working for the Lord  rather than for people " Col 3:23 MSG

One Final Landing

September 9 th , 2001, I gathered with a few dozen friends in a rented high school auditorium for the first Sunday morning service as The Landing . We had been meeting on Friday nights in a technology center for almost a year and it was time to see if this vision had God’s blessing and the tenacity necessary to actually become a church.  On March 3, 2002, we moved into an industrial park and  and officially became The Landing Community Church . Four years later we moved once more; this time into a 38,000 square foot building in Glenpool, Oklahoma. In June of 2015, after nearly 15 years of leading this work, God orchestrated the handing off of this church to an amazing young couple that could take what God had begun and move it along the predestined path He had determined. Today, after 17 years of ministering to thousands of people, the ministry of The Landing will conclude its final service with that name and merge with another ministry to begin charting a new course. The e
Sometimes we let our problems dictate what we will do and what we will say. Today, tell those problems that you are not going to be pushed around anymore! Unleash your dreams to begin guiding you into the truth and path that the Lord has set out in front of you. #dreams2destiny

Make Up Your Mind

2 Corinthians 9 encourages us to remember: " A stingy planter gets a stingy crop; a lavish planter gets a lavish crop. I want each of you to take plenty of time to think it over, and make up your own mind what you will give. That will protect you against sob stories and arm-twisting. God loves it when the giver delights in the giving ". I am trying to be generous on every occasion. In order to do that I have to make certain that my priorities are right. There have been many times in my life when I gave my time, talent and treasure to the Lord only after I had used them for something else. Often I would find myself coming up short of time, low on skill and null of any financial blessing. There is a biblical principle that encourages us to give to the Lord first and recognize that whatever we plant in what God is doing is going to produce a harvest. If I am short on time I need to invest some volunteer hours to help out a ministry or business. If I am lacking financially
