Filled and Led by the Spirit

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. (Luke 4:1, 2 NKJV) It always seemed strange to me that the Holy Spirit would lead Jesus to a miserable place in the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. It was there that for forty days he was bombarded with selfish thoughts, evil ideas and loveless deeds and even hunger pains. Then I noticed that he had been filled with the Holy Spirit BEFORE that WILDerness path. Filled with the power of the Spirit before being grilled by the enemy. He was filled with the Spirit and led by the Spirit. God always provides the strength that we need, even in the lonely , desolate places! My experience is that most of my hardest challenges seem to come right after my greatest victories. Maybe that is your story too. There is nothing that you and I will ever be subject to that God won't give strength to endure and a way to walk

Strong and Courageous

Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go .”- Joshua 1:9 These are the words of the Lord to Joshua right after the loss of his mentor, Moses. When life changes abruptly before us it can have a negative impact on us. We can begin to feel that things can never be good again. Then, somewhere after the pity-party and self-doubt we get the Word from God and things are made right once again. Joshua was told two things:  don't be afraid  and  don't be discouraged . When we dis-courage we open ourselves up to high levels of doubt and a spirit of unbelief. To inspire Joshua the Lord gave him a reason to not be discouraged: the Lord said I will be with you wherever you go! It's easy to TAKE COURAGE when you know that the Lord is with you all the way. So whatever you are in the middle of right now, don't allow fear to rise within you. Be strong and TAKE COURAGE. Stand in the midst of the s

When Dealing with Anger

Don't Be Angry #saturdaysmiles

Todays #saturdaysmiles VIDEO highlights a little story about anger and how God helped me to overcome it and learn self-control.  WATCH the VIDEO

Commit to Change

“The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness; my love will know no bounds, for my anger will be gone forever. I will be to Israel like refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily; it will send roots deep into the soil like the cedars in Lebanon. Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees, as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon. My people will again live under my shade. They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines. They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon.” Hosea 14:4-7‬NLT This scripture describes the beautiful restorative power of the Lord when true repentance takes place.  Repentance is the activity of reviewing one's actions and feeling contrition or regret for past wrongs, which is accompanied by commitment to change for the better . (Wikipedia) It’s not simply enough to be sorry for the bad decisions and choices of the past.  True repentance requires a commitment to change for the better. That commitment t

One Big Puzzle

Have you ever wished that you could figure out your life more quickly? That it feels like one big puzzle and some of the pieces are missing? Have you ever have a hard time making the pieces fit? I find myself wishing at times that God gave me a longer look at the BIG picture of His plan for me so that I could find the right pieces to put this puzzle together! All I seem to get are what I call "glimpses of glory"; quick looks at what WILL BE if I just keep putting the puzzle together. Several years ago during our family vacation in the summer we tried to put a huge puzzle together. The puzzle had thousands of pieces and it was quite overwhelming at first. To me it looked impossible and very time consuming. I tried to get it started and put the edges together because they are the easiest for me. Same thing with my life. Setting the boundaries is the easiest part. Trying to figure out what goes inside is the hard part! Same with the puzzle. The inside pieces are the hard

Nothing Missing, Nothing Lacking

The lions may grow weak and  hungry, but those who seek (trust) the LORD lack no good thing . PS 34:10 Imagine today that you could live life in such a way that there would be no shortfalls. No shortfalls emotionally, physically, financially and spiritually. Sounds like a perfect way to move through the day doesn't it? Nothing missing and nothing lacking? Trusting in the Lord sets us up for the best possible life that you could live. When He is in control you can know that the people you meet, the conversations you have and the places you end up are being divinely guided or inspired. When you please the Lord, the Lord always pleases you. There is no lack because you have a new understanding that all things are eventually going to work out for your benefit because He is in control of ALL things and you have given Him control of you! So what are you thinking about today? Are you staying positive and trusting God? Have you fully surrendered the control to Him? Then you can k

Where's Your Head At? #saturdaysmiles

A little encouragement from Philippians 4:8-9😁 Watch the video:  Where's Your Head At?

Make the Call

Psalm 91:14 "If you’ll hold on to me for dear life," says God,"I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer , be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life,  give you a long drink of salvation!" There are many people today that are simply holding on for dear life as their world is rocked by all types of challenges and difficulties. I've had more challenges in the last 6 weeks than I've had in the past 2 years! Life can get crazy and we can become unbalanced in times like these. The good news is that we have an advocate and a support system. God is ready to get you out of the trouble and move you to the other side. In a time when our nation is talking about the terrible care we provide for our veterans, the elderly, and each other, God says I am going to give you the BEST care! So what's the secret to sustaining

Don’t Let Waiting Be Deflating

" Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised ". Heb 6:15 Abraham was blessed by God and was told that he would be the beginning of an amazing lineage…a father of many nations. God made a promise to him. But it did not happen overnight. Abraham had to wait.  I am sure we can all relate to that...waiting. Most of the things I find myself praying for seem to come after a period of waiting. Waiting is important but so is how we wait.  Abraham had tenacity when it came to waiting. He waited  patiently  and with unshakeable resolve. He held on to the promise and did not let go until it came. Most would have said that his window for starting a family was over…you must have missed God. To us he was too old and it was too late. But God felt different. God saw him as a father of  many  nations! And by learning the lessons in the waiting, Abraham received what God had promised.  Don't let "waiting" be "deflating". Use the tim

Sparkling Surprises

Though the path is difficult and the scenery dull at the moment, there are sparkling surprises just around the bend. Stay on the path I have selected for you. It is truly the path of Life. But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.  —Isaiah 40:31 This popped up from my feed from a post one year ago. What a difference a year makes! For so many right now, the Lord is beginning to lavish upon them the "sparkling surprises" of unspeakable joy, unending peace and undeniable love. To remain in that "spiritual space", all that is required is staying on the path. With all of the things that try to move us off this path it can be challenging. I join you today in praying that we walk on that path daily, heads held high, looking for and acknowledging those "sparkling surprises" that the Lord presents. I've a feeling they have only

In the Ditch

The wisdom of the wise keeps life on track;  the foolishness of fools lands them in the ditch . Proverbs 14:8 Life on track is much different than life that lands in the ditch. I wonder how many times we find ourselves "in the ditch". I'm not talking about an actual ditch. I would venture to guess that we have been emotionally derailed or mentally side-swiped and found ourselves "off road" at different times. Being off-road can feel a bit exciting, sort of like a rogue agent, but I can assure you that it gets old quick. We were not designed to be Bond-like. We were made to have a bond with Christ! We were designed to stay on God's highway of favor.  Imagine a road where your vehicle is not destroyed by potholes or a stretch of road where uneven lanes don't cause accidents. Life is full of obstacles along the way and only God can help us to navigate our way through the difficulties and get back "on track"again. Wisdom is making the

God Will Deliver You

There have been many times in my life where I felt like the world was out to get the main reason other people existed was to torment me and bring difficulty into my life. Sad as that may sound, I was very immature in my relationship with the Lord and I did not know what His Word said. Maybe you have had some seasons like that too. The old saying "when it rains it pours" can ring true many times. The good news is that God did not plan for you to live life overwhelmed, frustrated and all stressed up with no place to go! John 10 tells us that Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly. That means your need will be met; your spiritual, physical, financial and emotional needs will not go unfulfilled. You can and will be delivered! David was facing great adversity. Enemies were coming out of the woodwork to harm him. Their taunts would be loud. "God will not deliver him" they would say.  Just remember today that  what THEY are saying does not mat

Strong in the Lord

Someone once said that you never know how strong you are until being strong is all you have. It is truly amazing to realize all that we are capable of and the deep-seated power that lies inside each one of us. Challenges will come. Difficulty may be just around the corner. The good news is that you have within you the power to overcome each and every one of the challenges. That power comes from a personal relationship with your Creator. When you live your life for Jesus, you are never alone. You are always thought of and cared for. And you have a power in you that is greater than anything that comes against you. So if you feel exhausted or lonely, you may be trying to do everything in your power and strength. Try living for Jesus and you will experience another level of strength that you never knew was in you. There’s nothing more beautiful than when you prove to yourself just how strong you are.  Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!

Where the Spirit of the Lord Is

photo credit: Jordan Jones  Thanking the Lord today for the freedom that we still enjoy. It's getting more and more important to fight for the things that matter. I have to admit that I am sometimes a bit saddened by some of the things people fight removing our flag, changing our motto of ‘in God we trust’ and a variety of other things. Most of those things seem to deal with control and our desire to control everything. Here’s a bit of news that may set you free today: you don’t own anything!  God owns it all and our reason to live on this planet is to steward his things and his people well. When we realize that we really have no control, we will experience such incredible freedom. And we should always remember that "where the Spirit of the Lord is...there  is  freedom". Let's keep that Spirit in these United States of America. God bless this great nation! Have a great July 4th! Celebrate freedom and be safe!

Your Gifts

Happy Birthday Dad!

I always celebrate the first day of the second half of every year by honoring this young dad...who turns 80 years old today! It's impossible to write down enough words to pay tribute to what my dad has meant to me. I am quite certain that as the first born child, I was quite a handful. But somehow he never got bent out of shape and managed to mold me into a pretty decent human being! He has been an incredible example to me for my entire life. I've never been afraid to reach out to him and ask questions and seek counsel and he has always been consistent and generous in his advice. My dad showed me the way to live my life and even now, I find myself continuing to reach out for prayers and support and that amazing wisdom that only he can provide. I am so grateful for for my dad and the way he leads our family. One of the best compliments I can ever receive is to be told that I look just like him. I pray that I act like him too! Dad, I pray for God's favo
