Just a Little Touch

Mark 5:30-31  At the same moment, Jesus felt energy discharging from him. He turned around to the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?” His disciples said, “What are you talking about? With this crowd pushing and jostling you, you’re asking, ‘Who touched me?’ Dozens have touched you !”  This is a story about Jesus walking with a bunch of folks on the way to Jairus' home to heal his daughter. There was a lot of activity as they go on their way until suddenly, Jesus stops and asked a simple question:"who touched me?" The disciples found this a bit odd as there were many people brushing up against Jesus. But Jesus had felt the touch of someone that had "pulled" power from him. It was just a little touch.  The touch came from a woman who had been sick for 12 years. She had done everything she knew to do in order to be well. But right there on that day and in that moment, she thought that if she could just get a finger on Jesus, if she could just get a

Have a Blessed Thanksgiving

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 4:4-7 Let your thanksgiving turn into thanks-living!

Vital Signs

Acts 2:42  The community continually committed themselves to learning what the apostles taught them, gathering for fellowship, breaking bread, and praying.  Check your vital signs! What good is it to have the nicest clothes and make-up if the body is comatose? There is a formula to living the life that God intended us to live. It started with the first church in Acts 2 as the community continually committed themselves to some very important things. 1-  teaching We need to stay in the Word. Through meditation, listening to it preached and taught in classes we will grow and mature in faith. The Bible is our blueprint for living the life Christ intended. 2-  fellowship There is nothing as powerful as teamwork...belonging to a group...a family of faith. Common unity or community breeds life, enthusiasm and powerful believers.  3-  breaking bread Everyone that goes to church knows how important a meal can be to the gatherings. Not only are church meals good. The meal a

PS 34:5

There will be a distinct and radiant look on those that are continuously seeking the Lord. That "glow" showing up on their faces is JOY! No shadow of shame will darken their faces. When things go differently than you expect and people say words that are not so kind, just know that as you look to the Lord for help He begins to brighten up your day. Your outlook brightens with your up look ! Get ready, God is about to "light you up"!

Is Love Working For You?

Romans 13:10  Don't run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along. The law code—don't sleep with another person's spouse, don't take someone's life, don't take what isn't yours, don't always be wanting what you don't have, and any other "don't" you can think of—finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can't go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code,  the  sum total is love . Never underestimate the power of love. You can't go wrong when you love others. The Bible is full of words that support the healing and saving power of love. Love covers sin. Perfect love gets rid of fear. Love never fails! You owe it to yourself to get this inside your heart! The church has always been filled with people that announce all of the DONT'S to the people. Don't steal,

Praying for You!

Today I simply wanted to tell you that I am praying for you and with you. I am asking the Lord to bring into your life all that you need in every way. I pray that "exceedingly, abundantly, above all you could ask or think" kind of day for you. Not only do I hope something good happens to you today,  I KNOW something good is about to come into your life! Just believe! Have an incredible day!  #cupofjoe

I'm not sure what you may be going through right now but I wanted you to know that the Lord will give you all the strength you need to get to the other side of the challenge. And as you are enduring the battle and trusting in Him, He promises you a peace that you could never understand. So be of good cheer, you will overcome because His strength in you is greater than the fight that is coming against you. You will be victorious!  #blessed #cupofjoe

Set Free

2 Corinthians 1:10-11  He has delivered  us from such a deadly peril, and  he will deliver  us again. On him we have set our hope that  he will continue to deliver  us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.  There is no doubt that evil is present in our world and bad things happen all the time. In this chapter Paul talks about some of the troubles he had while trying to share his faith and persuade people to follow Christ. Many times, circumstances and situations beyond his control occurred. But every time, God was in control and deliverance was the outcome. Deliverance simply means  to be set free . I like this scripture because it assures us that this help in my difficulties is not simply a one time thing. I can attest to that in my life too. I have seen and felt God's rescue in the past. I am experiencing that help right now in the present. And because of this pattern

Thank You Veterans

Today we remember all of those brave soldiers that defend the freedom that we enjoy. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would not be possible if these men and women were not making huge sacrifices for each of us. Mom's and dad's that are away from families and children, men and women that have protected and served for decades at such great sacrifice. We say  thank you  for your gift. You have given to us an opportunity for peace. You have helped make it possible for us to learn and grow. Life and happiness would mean nothing without liberty. Thank you to your loved ones, who let you go to fulfill this calling. Thank you to your spouses and children who waved goodbye but made sure to say "I'll see you soon!". Thank you to those that are praying for you all over the world as you make this sacrifice. Thank you to all of the soldiers that have gone before you, those who washed away the pain with their tears. Thank you to those who made a way with st

What's Your Relationship Status?

What is your relationship status? The other day I was in a discussion about church growth, engagement and membership. Granted these are not the cool parts of church (lights and sound, staging) but they are foundational parts of a living church. Seems these days that we put such a strong emphasis on “attending” church. Did you realize that Jesus never said “attend me”? His call was to “follow me”. We don’t attend the church…we ARE the church! I remember the temptation as a Lead Pastor to always want to come up with new ideas; unique and creative strategies to “attract” people to our church. We often asked why the growth was not happening at the same rate as we were creating these amazing programs. Then some new revelation dropped upon all of us: perhaps we should  stop trying to attract people and start helping to engage them ! Fact is, attendance grows out of engagement. When people become engaged, they find a personal way to participate that makes them more excited about the comm

And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.  Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  They immediately left  their nets and followed Him . Matt 4:18-20 Have you ever thought about why the first two folks on the list of recruits for Team Jesus were fisherman? As he put together the people that would "do life" with him for his ministry on earth he went after fisherman. And when he came to them, they were doing what they!  Perhaps he went after Peter and his brother Andrew because they understood what it was like to cast out a net and wait. People may respond to the Gospel like fish at times, wiggling away or trying to swim through the net. Or maybe it was because their character was not to quit just because the nets didn't have any fish in them. Instead they would go out every day. Maybe it was because fisherma

The Golden Rule

Matthew 7:12 “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.  This is the essence of all  that is taught in the law and the prophets. Now that's some good counsel right there! Imagine a world where we all operated under this principle.  Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you!  You can't just stop reading after those first four words and be ok! "Do to others whatever..."  Can you picture an office space where people treat each other like  they  want to be treated? How about a church where the people actually honor each other and are praying for the success of their brothers and sisters in the Lord? It may seem a bit up unreachable but if we approached our time with others intentionally behaving like we want them to behave around us, things would be different. It begins with one conversation, one meeting, one day. You want people to be kind to you, be kind. You want people to support you, support them.  This IS the essence of all !

Hallmark Christmas Movies

We are embarking on one of my favorite times of year…Hallmark Christmas movie time! Yes, that’s right, Cup of Joe is captivated by those simple, and sometimes cheesy love stories. Every town is decorated with lights and there is always snow- something I miss here in Texas. These movies take me back to the days when my children were little and so full of excitement on Christmas morning. Christmas has always been my favorite season. We would decorate the house inside and out and fill our lives with everything Christmas! Now that my children are all grown up and living their own lives, we don’t always get to spend the holidays together. So, at times when I am watching these movies I feel sad over the moments that are missing and the times we don’t share. I can even start to think about the painful parts of life. So there is great joy and even some deep sadness. Is it possible for us to manage all of these feelings? The answer is yes! I’m realizing the power of memories but more tha
