It's really interesting to me how hard forgiveness seems to be for us. I believe it is because our perception of forgiveness has more to do with the person that wronged us than it does ourselves. Imagine that the wrong done to you was like a coat that you were forced to wear every single day. You feel all the emotions while you are wearing it. When you see it on you in a mirror it reminds you of what happened over and over again. And then one day, you realize that YOU have the power to take off that coat! What? Wouldn't you do it? Of course you would do it in a heartbeat. Forgiveness is like taking off that coat. It disconnects you from what was done and gives it to the Lord to deal with. It sheds all of the harmful emotions that covered you. Forgiveness is the key that sets YOU free.
If you are wearing a coat of pain, anger and embarrassment, let today be the day you take it off. Forgive yourself for being unaware that YOU had the power all along. And then let God handle the rest. It's time for freedom to come!
