Lead Me Forward

There are mornings when you wake up with clarity and confidence.
And then there are mornings when your heart feels heavy before your feet ever hit the floor.

David knew those kinds of mornings.

In Psalm 143, he doesn’t pretend to have it all together. He doesn’t mask his fear, stress, or desperation. Instead, he brings everything honestly before God and asks for what he needs most: direction, protection, and strength for another day.

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you…”
Psalm 143:8

What a powerful way to begin the day.

Before strategy.
Before decisions.
Before emails.
Before battles.

David wanted to hear from God first.

So many of us start the morning listening to anxiety, pressure, news, deadlines, or our own inner criticism. But the soul was never designed to be led by fear. It was designed to be anchored in the unfailing love of God.

David continues:

“Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.”

That is the prayer of surrender.

Not “Show me how to control everything.”
Not “Show me how to avoid difficulty.”
Simply: “Lord, guide my steps.”

Sometimes we want God to reveal the entire roadmap while He simply offers enough light for the next faithful step. Trust grows when obedience happens one step at a time.

Then David says:

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.”

Life can feel unstable. Emotions shift. Circumstances change. People disappoint. But God’s Spirit still leads His people forward onto firm footing. He steadies what feels shaky. He gives wisdom when confusion clouds the path. Notice something important here: David doesn’t only ask for rescue. He asks to be taught.

Mature faith is not just wanting God to remove trouble. It is wanting God to shape us through it.

Finally, David closes with confidence in God’s character:

“Because of your faithfulness, bring me out of this distress.”

David’s hope was not rooted in his own strength. It was rooted in God’s faithfulness.

And that is where our hope must live too.

You may not know exactly what this season holds. You may be carrying pressure no one else sees. But every morning, the unfailing love of God still meets you fresh. His Spirit still leads forward. His faithfulness still holds firm.

So before you rush into today, pause long enough to pray:

“Lord, let me hear Your unfailing love this morning. Show me where to walk. Lead me forward on firm footing.”

That prayer can change the direction of an entire day.

Cup of Joe (shareable quote)

“The strongest footing in life is not confidence in yourself. It is confidence in the faithfulness of God.”
